Product Information

A dramatic, witty Civil War tale from bestselling author Rodman Philbrick Master storyteller Rodman Philbrick takes readers on a colorful journey as young Homer Figg sets off to follow his brother into the thick of the Civil War. Through a series of fascinating events, Homer's older brother has been illegally sold to the Union Army. It is up to Homer to find him and save him. • Another Rodman Philbrick hit

Somehow Rodman Philbrick manages to pluck the heart strings of children and adults alike. My wife and I have bought Philbrick's books for our school library, and reading just one will get you and your kids hooked. Philbrick's books always have a great message, and this one is no exception. Homer sees the civil war from the stand point of a child from the south, and his search for his brother brings him into the conflict in unusual ways and opens his mind to a new way of thinking. Philbrick's engrossing story, like always, creates empathy and promotes tolerance, and as always, there is a clear moral message mixed in with the everyday musings of the main character.
