Pirates: On Stranger Tides
This last movie in Pirates franchise is a little weak on plot and character but is still good fun nonetheless. I thought Black Beard wasn't as enjoyable a villain as Barbossa partly due to his frank evilness. On the whole the sort of innocent fun of the first movie which managed to seep into the next two films is not as evident here. Oh well, the kids like it and that's what really matters.

In the fourth installment of the popular Pirates films, Jack (Johnny Depp) and his mates are in search of the ever-elusive fountain of youth. He soon runs into an old flame, Angelica (Penélope Cruz) and discovers that she and her father, Blackbeard (Ian McShane), are also headed for the fountain. And they aren’t the only ones… I was dying to see this movie the weekend it was released, but while my kids are still so young, it is essentially impossible to see a movie in the actual theater! Thank goodness for our local drive-in. I’ll start with the bad news. This plot/script was the hardest to follow of all the Pirates movies. I don’t know what it was they did differently, but there were several times I had to stop and ask myself exactly what was going on. For one thing, there are several ... In the fourth installment of the popular Pirates films, Jack (Johnny Depp) and his mates are in search of the ever-elusive fountain of youth. For one thing, there are several different groups in pursuit of the fountain—Jack, Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and the British, the Spanish, Blackbeard and Angelica…I still can’t keep track of who all was involved! I really think they could have focused mainly on Jack and Blackbeard and let the rest fall into place, rather than jumping from here to there. I was also sad that Will and Elizabeth weren’t involved in this film. It just felt empty at times without them. It could have been better if the other characters were utilized better in their scenes. Then again, adding Will and Elizabeth would have just meant more characters to keep up with! Besides all that, Johnny Depp is, as usual, fabulous and completely redeems the film! There is the signature mix of the dramatic with his charismatic humor. It was nice to see Jack get his very own, serious, love interest, even if their relationship was anything but easy. I would have loved to have seen them together more!

Decent film POOR BLU-RAY & WHERE ARE THE DVD’S
Well, here I go again with the comments I have been forced to input since fall 2009. What is Disney thinking? This Release ONLY blu-ray packages BUT we DVD people have to sit &amp; wait for that package? Terrible. I hope Disney loses a lot of money again because of this idiot choice. I can NOT afford regular DVD's, how can I afford blu-rays? The film is decent. Jumps around is she or isn't she with Cruz. At least she can say she has a hit box office movie now. The changing of the Rush's character. Been in all the films but they keep messing with the character. And, his character was NOT even spoken of on the promotional information on the case. Yep, I paid an expensive amount of money for a OLD DAYS BUT NOT FOR DISNEY PLAIN SILVER DVD & A COLORFUL FRISBEE. Back when DVD's came out in the late 1990’s remember Disney films had colorful discs. BUT EVERYONE IS DOING BLU-RAY DISNEY. Does anyone think Walt would have allowed there cheap looking DVD's to be released if he was still alive? No, I do NOT think so. How about these plastic cases WITH THE INTENTIONAL HOLES IN THEM. CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. So discs can be damaged SO YOU ARE FORCED TO BUY ANOTHER. No chapter list, any information on the film. Film is fine, best of course is still the 2003 original. But, DISNEY DVD PEOPLE ARE STILL OUT HERE SO RELEASE THEM PROPERLY &amp; STOP THE CUTTING OF CORNERS.

Although this is a must see before the new release its worth seeing even if its not the best one. The characters are still as good as always but the story line was unusual and seemed out of place did miss Orland Bloom.
