In a win-or-die-trying romp through America's happy days, Mafia II players vie for underworld ascendancy. Mafia II is set in Empire Bay, a fictional metropolis inspired primarily by New York and San Francisco in the '40s and '50s. Mafia II unearths a gritty universe and personal adventure through a cinematic experience. You play as Vito Scaletta, a character sucked into the world of the Mafia due to his father. Together with his best friend Joe Barbaro, you'll dive into the seedy underbelly of Empire Bay. This PS3 title was developed by 2K Czech and published by Take-Two Interactive. This title will take most gamers roughly 25 to 30 hours to fully complete. This PS3 game is rated M for Mature. Accompanying the strong, believable characters is the captivating and engaging gameplay. Here, you can enjoy near-absolute control of your character as Vito traverses the city. In Mafia II, your character can run, jump, swim, and climb across the entirety of Empire Bay. If you need to get to a location more quickly, you can hijack a vehicle. There are over 40 vehicles in this title to drive, each one with their own strengths and weaknesses. When driving the cars in this PlayStation 3 game, you can enjoy some of the classic music of the era licensed from real artists. These artists include The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Bing Crosby, and Bo Diddley.Eventually, it's time to fight. In addition to Vito's fists, you also have access to a wide range of weaponry. Older weapons like the Colt 1911 reappear from the first title. New weapons for the era, like the MP-40, quickly turn fights into a bloodbath. Your character can duck behind cover, keeping you safe from enemy gunfire. You can also move between cover quickly and easily. The game provides plenty of cover at all times, ranging from wooden boxes and cars to walls and doors. However, your enemies can take cover as well, requiring the player to use clever tactics to win. If you die during a gunfight, the game's checkpoint system will revive you moments before the fight began. One of the biggest innovations in this PlayStation 3 game is the option to have multiple interactions in specific situations. For example, rather than just one canned animation for breaking into a car, you have two options available. You can silently pick the lock, which takes longer but hides your action from the authorities. You can also choose just to break the glass, which will get you into the car quicker but attract attention. You'll want to be as quiet as possible because the police are always keeping an eye on mob members. When you're caught breaking the law, the police will stop at nothing to throw you behind bars. Break enough laws, and they will attempt to kill you.This PS3 game garnered a vast amount of praise since its August 2010 release date. In particular, critics have praised the high-quality graphical engine powering the title. During a cutscene, your character will wear the same clothes you selected. Likewise, if there is any damage to your Mafia car, that is reflected as well. This PS3 game is also recognized for its high-quality facial models.     A fun game.

    This game is more for adults than kids. It does have some course language, but is a fun game otherwise. Not recommended for the young.

    Mafia 2 good while it lasts.

    After playing through it twice, the overall game play is great. However, due to the lack of activities you can do outside of the story line, you would be better off playing a Grand theft Auto series. Furthermore, the lack of police AI even on hard mode prevents the entertain half of fighting off the police. The storyline is also awfully short and the limitations placed upon this game, such as not being able to park certain cars in your garage really undermines the overall capabilities of this game. Nevertheless, for what its worth 3.5 out of 5 stars, now if they took off the limitations of game play and expanded the maps then maybe it will be closer to a 4.

    A NEARLY GREAT GAME. THAT JUST NEEDED SOME MINOR TWEEKS

    First of all, I played the Demo to this game and immediately, I became addicted to playing this game. Many times I felt myself just listening to the opening Theme music alone. I was reminded of the fun I use to have playing GTA III,(except this has far better Graphics/cut scenes). The Voices of the Characters within the game are really amazing. However what would have made this game truly great if only the AI of the people you encounter in the street were smarter. Many times people would just randomly walk right in front of my Car, just as I was about to enter the street. Realistically, who does that? Also Cops would give chase to me for speeding, however they never pull you over for running through a red light? I would have liked to see a Cop or two remember my Character upon giving ...

    Watch out for the bug in Chapter 14!

    ok, so the game itself is awesome but somehow, they have a ton of bugs that goes on in the game. reading some forums and news, Mafia II had no real beta testers. so when it came out, they added alot of patches to fix the game. i guess its cheaper to get a call from an angry gamer than paying a tester to find these bugs. so i went through the game did a bunch of stuff but i guess the only bug left is the one for Chapter 14 which prevents you to finish the Chapter. One way to fix the bug is not to steal from shops, during this chapter the other way is just to be lucky.

    Good but not great

    Mafia II is a cool story with great graphics and smooth game play. The game will remind you strongly of any of the Grand Theft Auto series and does not offer much new in terms of what you had in the GTA series. Buy clothes, steal cars, shoot guns, run from the cops. The storyline and cinemas are better than GTA and keep you wanting to play more with missions that vary rather than straight shoot em up. Also is good because there are twists that take you to places you do not expect.
