About this product

Product Information

Sporting a silver camera body, the Nikon D40 is a compact DSLR camera with a 2.5-inch LCD monitor and a viewfinder that delivers 95 percent coverage and a 0.8x magnification. The DX-format CCD sensor complements a proprietary processing engine that yields sharp and vivid images. In addition, the Nikon 6.1 MP camera has 3D Color Matrix Metering II technology that optimizes an image by comparing factors such as brightness, color, and contrast against an onboard database of more than 30,000 actual photographs. This DSLR camera uses a three-area autofocus system for quickly acquiring and tracking subjects with ease. Additional features of the Nikon 6.1 MP camera include a self-timer mode, a delayed remote mode, and single-frame advance, as well as continuous frame advance with a speed of 2.5 fps. The Nikon D40 offers multiple exposure modes, including manual, shutter priority auto, and aperture priority auto, allowing users to choose the option that best matches their skills and the occasion. This Nikon 6.1 MP camera also includes multiple in-camera editing options, such as red-eye removal, color balance, trim, image overlay, and an assortment of picture effects. Images are stored as JPEGs or RAW files and saved to SD or SDHC memory cards via the integrated card slot. The package includes the camera body only, requiring consumers to add a separate Nikon bayonet F-mount lens. The camera body measures 5 inches wide, 3.7 inches high, and 2.5 inches deep, and it weighs 16.8 oz.

I needed a Loewe sneaker 👟 box for a brand new pair of Loewe Sneakers I got at a sample sale because I like to stack by designer. Even though the box was described and shown a little worn, the price was great. Another ebay store wanted more than twice as m I ch fir a box that was in bad condition. This box is sturdy enough for my Loewe and the shipping was super fast because I live 20 minutes away, LOL!!! Great deal!!

  • Great camera for the starter or the pro.

This is a great entry camera. I made somewhat of a switch from using cannons to buying this Nikon d40. I liked the price first. But the camera has very clear pictures, intuitive controls (if you have a Canon now the controls are just flipped) . The camera communicates well with my Mac and PCs. The menus and feed back is clear and my lenses have worked great. The only issues I have with it is that (1) the display doesn't turn off when you put the camara to your face like a rebel it waits for you to press the shudder release 1/2 way. So you have some light in your face for a moment. There isn't as far as I have seen an option to put the focus on a separate button than the shudder release like the canons.

  • Nikon D40 Kit

i had been using this camera for about a week now. its been a great camera as a starter for photography. the only thing which i found is that when you are taking a picture its more handy if they have the ability for the user to select if he/she want to use the viewfinder or the LCD screen for the display. The D40 doesnt support the lcd screen when taking a picture. other than that everything else seems really nice. flash seems to be good. macro is good (objects can be closen up upto about 8-10") im happy for my buy. cheers sid

  • Wow, this camera is the bees knees!

As an amatuer photographer, I've mostly stuck to simple SLR's, forgoing digital because I always thought they were all the kind you'd find for less than a hundred bucks at Target or Wally world. I was proven wrong when I was searching for a nice digital camera and stumbled across the Nikon D40, first through ebay and then on several websites that swear by it. I haven't had a full chance to give this puppy a test run quite yet. Once I have the battery charged I'll be able to really let her rip and see what she's capable of, but even with the minimal use I've had I'm quite impressed with it. The settings are easy to understand and the best part is that the LCD screen will help you understand aperture settings and what not, so I appreciate that Nikon did a user-friendly interface for ...

  • Great little DSLR

I was angling for a D90, but my wife had a D80 and really, we didn't need two of the same camera. Opted for the cheaper d40 and I am very happy with the decision. It's lighter, more compact and very easy to use. Has great features and works with the lenses we already had. If you aren't a pro, or are a pro and want a lighter camera for travel, this is the one.

  • Small but mighty. The giant slayer of cameras.

Having owned many different cameras, this has to be at the top of my list. PRO'S: Light weight, easy to use {not as many bells and whistles as the higher price multiple megapixel machines so easier and less intimidating for novice or pro to use, after all not many of us need all the extra gizmos} Will make excllent 8x10's, although i haven't tried larger size photos. Small size is easy for small hands to use. Excellent battery life. CON'S: Will not auto focus with older model lens. Some will say they need more bells and whistles. I really cannot think of any other con's. As it is a very satisfying camera for me to use. I am not a professional but i do know a good photo when i see one and i rarely do any modification of my photos except maybe cropping or enlarging, thus the D40 in ...
