    a common man's point of view.

    The photo they are showing on this ballet may or may not be correct. It is NOT matched to the dancers listed in some of the sales ads. This ballet pictured IS by the Kirov ballet but stars one of the most beautiful and capable Ballerinas Russia has to offer, Yulia Makhalina and a very capable but not very beautiful Igor Zelensky as Prince Siegfried. You can see their names on the cover picture if you enlarge it. Make sure you have your dealer confirm the principle dancers. I have seen Makhalina/Zelensky version and can tell you it is an excellent ballet. It has beautiful costumes and sets, very colorful with good lighting in all four acts. It has the so called happy ending found in every Russian version of Swan Lake I've seen. It is 115 minutes in length, which is about right for ...

    4 Stars, would have been 5 stars if...

    ...this production had not used the basically superfluous jester character. I got the impression that the dancer was some protege or relative of the director, who wanted his boy to get a good role to show off, even if that part was not in the classical presentations.
