The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes vol.2 The Speckled Ba
This review is for 2 episodes of Sherlock Holmes: The Speckled Band and the Crooked Man. Both based on stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle star Jeremy Brett as Holmes and David Burke as Dr. Watson. THE SPECKLED BAND: This is one of the more famous adventures of "Sherlock Holmes" and as in the past, the story line closely follows that of the original story. Brett and Burke are both excellent in their roles and the scenery and costumes fit the Victorian period. The older of two sisters, who is soon to be married, is killed under mysterious circumstances. The only clue she leaves is the words "A Speckled Band" and a whistle sound before she dies. Her younger sister requests the help of Sherlock Holmes to solve the mystery, as she feels that she may also suffer the same fate. The two sleuths ... THE CROOKED MAN: At the insistence of Dr. Watson, Holmes agrees to investigate the murder of an army regiment commander that Watson has some affinity for. It seems that the murder took place in a room locked from the inside, and also found in the room was the wife of the commander fainted on the floor. Holmes begins to assemble clues that indicate that there was a third individual in the room at the time of death. Fine acting and screenplay in both films; these are episodes from the popular British "Granada" tv series of the 1980's. If you enjoy mysteries, and especially those of Sherlock Holmes, you will want to see these two.
