Synopsis
A practical guide to letting go of the character defects that get in the way of true and joyful recovery. Resentment. Fear. Self-Pity. Intolerance. Anger. As Bill P. explains, these are the "rocks" that can sink recovery--or at the least, block further progress. This cast of character defects will undermine the best-laid plans for recovery from addiction. It's not uncommon for individuals in recovery to hang on to negative, self-defeating behaviors after they've given up their addiction. These are the "rocks" that can sink recovery - or, at the least, block further progress. With more than 100,000 copies sold, Drop the Rock is the definitive guide to removing character defects that can prevent gratifying, long-standing recovery. Based on the Twelve Step program, particularly the principles behind Steps Six and Seven, Drop the Rock combines personal stories, practical advice, and powerful insights to help readers move forward in recovery. The second edition features additional stories, a reference section, and information about starting a Drop the Rock study group.

Love who you are not who you are not.

As what I have heard from others, this book is really great. Though my sobriety is just over 14 months, I see, hear and comprehend every day life much clearer. My relationship with my wife and others has improved so good that I realize what alcohol has done to me (as well as others) in the past, that everyday living is sweeter now. I made the change because I wanted to make a positive difference on how to I live my life. And it's working. I keep coming back and being of service, it works!! Dean R.

A good addition to any 12-Step Library

The book is written clearly and is easily readable. One has to decide for her/him self as to the relevance and helpfulness of the content and presentation. Take what you like and leave the rest, so to speak. I'm still reading the book and am pleased to have it.

  • Great book

I really like this book and recommend it to anyone who is trying to live a more spiritual & good life, specifically if you are doing it while working a program. I believe that the real meat of a good long term AA program involved a lot of difficult work with the 6th & 7th steps. The Book barely spares a paragraph on each step, but whether you believe in an active higher power or not, I haven't been able to remove my character defects without putting conscious effort in to it.

  • Opinion.

My sponsee has just started her 6th step and I bought she and l the book. This was one of the best books I've used. Thanks for the writers for more insight to the sixth and seventh steps.
