Ho-Humm Avengers
I now own all the The Avengers DVD's. All the way from 1961 thru 1968. Then again in 1976-77 with The New Avengers. Of all the five gendras in The Avengers series. The 1968 series has to be the most disapointing. It's very easy to us men to gague a series of how attactive the leading ladies are. It's also very hard to no get totaly turned on by the sight of Daina Rigg in a one piece leather suit. Whilst Linda Thorson isn't quite as sexy as Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg or Joanna Lumley. She never the less is an attractive woman. I'm not baseing my opinions on the series just of her looks. Rather it's more with the production where the problems lie. Firstly, the whole idea of a spy in training doesn't really work. Her silly wigs, and luck of confidence shows. Whilst Emma Peel looked uber sexy ... I now own all the The Avengers DVD's. The writers and production crew seem to be somewhat disgruntled. Often new ideas were tried, like the whole 'Mother' thing. Others complained bitterly about it. I just don't think it worked very well. I think they tried to intermix humor into the script. They shouldn't have bothered. It didn't work. I only collected the 1968 season to complete my Avengers collection. But considering the price I had to pay for set 1 and set 5 of nearly $30 each. I hardly feel like it was money well spent. Especially compaired to buying a used 17 disc complete Emma Peel set which is brilliant begining to end. But like collecting anything on e-Bay. It gets very addictive and compelling. You won't regret owning any of the Avengers series. But these may be your least favorite. My only opinion left is it's was a shame that they couldn't have done a better job either finding a better Tara King or letting her become more comfortable in her job before shooting started. The bad fashions, bad hair-doos, and bad over weight. Mixed with less than perfect scripts, producion problems, make it all a realy big shame. This could have been corrected it they had allowed a 1969 and 1970 season. But unfortunatly they pulled the plug when ratings fell. Linda Thorson grew into her first big break. But we grew out of favor with her. Once it's over, it's often over. I screwed up in my first big break job in 1983 too. So Linda "We love you", don't take it personal.

If you like the Avengers with Linda Thorson. then you'll like this set. The episodes of the Interrogators.. the Curious Case of the Countless Clues and the Rotters are top flight. In the Interrogators. Agents are being tricked into giving up their contacts when seemingly approved specialized training is being done with Mothers approval. In the Case of the Countless Clues, viillains are stealing valuable art work by setting up the rich by killing someone they know and leaving clues pointing to me. In the Rotters, the villains have invented a gun that rots wood away instantly and their killing the scientist who worked on the project. In Killer, Steed works with Lady Diana Forbes Blakeney, who's taking the place of Tara, in finding out who's killing several agents. In The Morning After, Steed ... If you like the Avengers with Linda Thorson. then you'll like this set. The episodes of the Interrogators.. the Curious Case of the Countless Clues and the Rotters are top flight. Finally, in Invasion of the Earthmen, Steed and Tara uncover a plot to conquer space after the death of a fellow agent. In this one, Tara wears a blonde wig.

Still going strong.
