Soviet Machine Guns gives one the compelling story of how a simple weapon changed tactics and helped lead the way for the first generation of assault rifles. Chris McNab points out how the nominally low powered 7.62mm pistol round actually out performed the 9mm and .45 cal SMGs in penetration while allowing for controlable full auto fire. You can learn a lot form this book on how full auto weapons were deployed and how they altered small unit tactics. Highly recommended!
