About this product

Product Information

Known for its fine German engineering, the popular Volkswagen Beetle drives onto the Nintendo 64 in this exclusive release from Electronic Arts. With a roster consisting solely of 1999-model Beetles, the game is a mixture of racing and adventure, where players can see how well they perform on the tracks or venture out to discover the many shortcuts and secrets found off the beaten path. Beetle Adventure Racing offers three modes of play: "One Player," consisting of a Single Race, Championship Circuit, and Time Attack; "Two Player," a head-to-head race against a friend; and "Beetle Battle," where up to four players attempt to find six ladybug icons in a choice of power-up filled arenas.

The Championship Circuit has you competing in four increasingly challenging events in one of three cars, each rated in top speed, acceleration, and handling. To unlock eight more vehicles, you'll have to win each circuit by earning more points than the seven drivers forming your competition. Six different courses have you racing along the countryside in Coventry Cove, up and down icy slopes on Mount Mayhem, past dense forests on Inferno Isle, through Egyptian pyramids on Sunset Sands, on urban streets in Metro Madness, and through spooky caves in the Wicked Woods. To save course records and completed circuits, a Controller Pak with four pages free is required. Vibration feedback is also supported with the Rumble Pak accessory.

Affordable racer that balances realism along the main path with optional silliness of hidden items and backroads

Very easy to pick up, customizable controls, decent physics. Low price point, good game for those looking for more of a realistic racer than Mario or Diddy, but plenty of hidden silly bonus items so its not rigid or serious feeling either. I think it would be nice if a bit more variety of vehicles were pre-unlocked, but after a few races you start to unlock more cars. Overall, a great value and should appeal to a range of racing styles. If you want a race game that falls between cartoony and serious competitive, this one is definitely worth the $10.

  • Better than Forza Motorsport

Well, if I were to be stuck on a desert island and I could only bring one racing game, it would have to be Beetle Adventure Racing. I have played Forza Motorsport 2 on the XBOX360 but I feel that the raw-supercomputer power of the N64 and the smooth CD quality music of this game cannot be matched. I'm willing to bet that this will even give the new Gran Turismo a run for it's money. It is amazing that they managed to fit such an amazing game into a cartridge. But really, this game is fun, not many people know about it, if you have ever played SF Rush, imagine if that was fun and you pretty much have this game. Nothing to deep, good to play if you have 10 minutes to kill. Graphics *** Sound ** Control **** Fun *****

  • Oldies are still goodies

Long after supposedly outgrowing the Nintendo 64 my oldest (21) decided to revisit his childhood and get a 64 system again. His whole Air Force dorm had a blast playing the games. This game in particular is great for a young kid because they can travel on the track or go off road. I recommend the 64 system and a number of the games for those ages 3 to 5 who want to game but aren't really ready to care for the more expensive systems. Also this game is easy to navigate and allows kids to learn how to use the controllers....yes, that is a good coordination and fine motor skill practice. Take it from a school teacher game systems do have many positive benefits for kids so just pay attention to ratings and enjoy!!

  • Beetle Adventure Racing. Greatest, most under rated game in N64 gaming!

This game is great. It's in the same era of the great racing games such as, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong, Mickey Mouse racing. But with a little more adult theme to it, even if it was still a cartoonish game. The 3D, cartoonish look was meant to look more realistic as a racing track, and it did not disappoint. Crusin USA, erotic, adventure and others is where this game fits into. Although the Mario characters get the glory, this game kick ass and was very cool back in 1999. Take a chance and try to get it, I think even after all these years Nintendo 64, SNES, and NES still have the original gaming quality to them, meaning it's more what gaming was to the Generation X crowd.

  • One for the collectors.

The graphics are a product of the time but this is definitely a source of my childhood nostalgia from weekends of renting movies and games to pizza joints. The scenery in this game is awesome and was always one of my favorite things bout it. It's an all around awesome racing game super entertaining even great for kids, my daughter got real into it too.
