About this product

Product Information

An atomic submarine cruising the Pacific discovers a gargantuan octopus concealed in the ocean depths. By the time they figure out that the monster is the nasty by-product of a hydrogen bomb experiment gone awry, the creature is already well on its way to destroying San Francisco. The sea creature is yet another fantastic example of masterful stop-motion animation from the technique's master, Ray Harryhausen.

  • Fun oldie and goodie.

My kids and I were looking up sea monsters on Wikipedia - sea monsters being big in our house right now at ages 7 and 8 - and came upon a reference with a little clip of a giant tentacle attacking San Fransisco. They begged, I checked e-bay, and voile! Within a week we were watching this black and white film of terror and destruction. The kids loved it, and roared with laughter when the jeep driver is so scared he runs through the beach sign. I was impressed that growing up with Pirates of the Carribean, their young imaginations still suspended belief as they oohed and aahhed through the extremely obvious "monster" and never questioned the outdated tools and conventions. I loved that there was a woman scientist lead(although the military was more likely to listen to the gravitas of ...

  • Harryhausen strikes again...

Who knew you could do this stuff with clay? I sued to watch Harryhausen films and then try to make something similar with a lump of clay. I usually came out with a different lump of clay, got frustrated, and attacked it with my GI Joes anyway. The visuals in this movie are stunning. Harryhausen's octopus is magnificent. This is probabaly my favorite among the giant creature films and is required Harryhausen viewing.

  • Perfect name

Good old sci-fi movie to watch.
