About this product

Product Information

The true story (on which the film Jeremiah Johnson was partially based) of John Johnson, who in 1847 found his wife and her unborn child had been killed by Crow braves. Out of this tragedy came one of the most gripping feuds--one man against a whole tribe--in American history.

Crow Killer "The saga of liver eating Johnson"

I'm really glad I got this book as it tells the whole story of the legendary frontiersman Jeremiah Johnson no the Robert Redford version made for the movies. It was a hard way of life and the early trappers and mountain men were indeed a hard breed of individual. Mr. Thorp told it like it was especially when the history was all by way of mouth and personal stories from other trappers and hunters.

  • the life story of John Johnston.

Awesome book, complements the movie, includes first person journals.

  • Just that!

This book is awesome! It tells the truth story of John Johnston, not the watered down version like the movie, Jeremiah Johnson.

  • Truly larger than life historical figure

This is then guy that the book "Mountain Man", and the movie "Jeremiah Johnson" were based on. The true story, though, is more fascinating than either of those great works. Granted, there is some conjecture necessary because accounts of Johnston's life are scattered, but the overall result of this author's research is an incredible tale about an incredible man. If you like tales of mountain men, trappers, pioneers, then stake out a comfortable chair, beacause this book will keep you enthralled throughout!!!
