About this product

Product Information

With its rivers of blood, this adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical isn't for the faint of heart--or stomach. But thanks to the black humor, impeccable production design, and gorgeous music, Tim Burton fans will want to sing after seeing SWEENEY TODD. For his sixth collaboration with the director, Johnny Depp stars as Benjamin Barker aka Sweeney Todd, a barber falsely imprisoned by Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman). After leaving prison, he comes back to Victorian London to find his wife poisoned and his daughter held captive. As he plots his revenge, Sweeney joins forces with Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), and while he preys on clients asking for a shave, his new partner turns the bodies into baked goods. But the judge still lives, and the razor-wielding madman wants his vengeance. Though it's a musical, SWEENEY TODD has more in common with Italian horror films such as SUSPIRIA than it does with CHICAGO. Even the horror-musical hybrid LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS pales in comparison to the darkness found here. Previous Burton-Depp pairings have veered toward the macabre, but this reaches a glorious new level. Though they've made excellent films apart, their partnership has produced some of their best work, including EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, ED WOOD, and now SWEENEY TODD. Depp demonstrates his rock-band roots as the antihero of the title with another amazing performance, while Bonham Carter is both hilarious and heartbreaking as the eager Mrs. Lovett. But credit also belongs to production designer Dante Ferretti, director of photography Dariusz Wolski, and, of course, Burton, for showing a sooty London that is just as dark as the film's subject matter. Source composer Sondheim should also be recognized for the haunting songs that threaten to stick in viewers' heads, but the film as a whole also deserves to be remembered for its beauty and brutality.

The disc was unfortunately cracked in half in transit (as Canada Post tends to handle packages like this very roughly), but the seller promptly issued a refund alongside discussing better shipping options for future purchases. The price was definitely right for this game, but I'd highly recommend other buyers opt for the 25 cent bubble mailer shipping upgrade!

Nice seller and the controller matches the description! Accidentally didn't include the USB cable to charge it but they admitted it before the item arrived and shipped a second package for it.

    Good Movie, Terrible Case

While I got the movie and it was in perfect condition and worked marvelously, the case was in horrible disrepair. The top of the case was crushed shut and dented in, while the other end had a busted clip, so the bottom of the case was completely open. I have another case now, and I see why it was priced low, but at least a little quality assurance for the case would be good.

  • Johnny can sing

Singing and slashing who knew these could go hand in hand. I give it a more than good but not quite excellent rating -it is a little hard to understand the british accents in song at first. The cast (harry potter meets pirates) is excellent -I think the 'blonde kid' should have been played by 'draco malfoy' to complete the theme. I didn't realize it was a musical although I knew it had singing and wow am I impressed, who knew they could sing apparently not even them, but they belted it. It's Johnny Depp singing definately a must see -he should do more singing roles.

  • Sweeny Todd:Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I liked the idea of a musical that wasn't all happy and high pitched screeching. The plot was not too complicated - rather simple - and based on how far some people are willing to go to get revenge for having their life ruined by another. I have always admired Johnny Depp's acting abilities. I honestly think he makes the movies he stars in. He's just crazy enough to make it look effortless. I find the songs get stuck in my head often and after watching the movie, I feel like I HAVE to watch it again soon. This movie is also horrific in the amount of violence and gore - this is NOT why I enjoy the movie. I would say this movie is disturbing - except I agree with the reason behind Todd's actions (how many persons wouldn't react in this way to some degree - not ...

  • SweeneyTodd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I cannot not say initially that I enjoyed this film the first time I had watched it in the theater. I had gone into the film not knowing a thing about the plot, nor had I realized that it was a musical. However, I had always been a huge fan of the Depp-Bonham Carter duo, so after seeing the film for the second time, I was hooked. The dark, enchanting ways in which Tim Burton directs in his films is only again captured in this film. After his daughter is taken away, and wife driven to insanity, Ben Barker seeks revenge on the corrupt judge whose rulings loom over Victorian era in London. Beautifully carried out, Sweeney Todd unfolds the secrets of love, revenge and tragedy.
