Great puzzle-platformer with killer music
I bought this game specifically for the awesome opening theme song, but little did I know that the whole soundtrack was pretty catchy as well. The gameplay is also equal amounts fun as it is challenging; none of the puzzles ever feel unfair or unsolvable, which is fantastic, especially since games from this era normally like to be incredibly difficult just for the sake of it. The whole package comes together to truly make a unique and memorable experience for anyone looking to play some old games on the classic NES system.I bought this game specifically for the awesome opening theme song, but little did I know that the whole soundtrack was pretty catchy as well. Solstice, an amazing puzzle game!
Hi, I'd like to tell you about Solstice, a Nintendo 8-bit game I bought for my console. Nostalgic as I am, I am trying to buy all the NES games I had when I was a kid back in the 80s and early 90s. Solstice were one of these, and it is one of my favourite puzzle/magic/exploration games of all time! To be honest though, I could never finish this game as a kid, cause it might be one of the hardest games ever made. It never got the best reviews just because of this problem, but I personally think it deserved better. One of the things you are going to notice whilst playing this game is the awesome music composed for this game, one of the best 8 bit tunes made, and I should know since I am a huge fan of 8-bit music. At first the isometric (slanted) controls are a bit hard to master. It's incredibly difficult to "complete" 100% (meaning to explore all rooms, gather all items, and complete all objectives to win the game). However, it only a moderate challenge to beat the game with a score less than 100%. The game has one of the most amazing soundtracks from the 8-bit era, with a progressive title track composed by Tim Follin which has a three minute playtime (one of the best game music tracks of the era in my opinion). The game works great on NES, but will also function on modern retro clone consoles. There are a handfull of useful "Game Ginnie" cheat codes available with a simply Google search, and several walk-thru tutorials available via the same means. If you like old-school 8-bit games, and don't already have Solstice in your collection, I highly recommend picking up a copy. It's will worth the investment.
