    Disappointing.

My main issue with this book was the lack of variety. I felt like I was reading the same recipe over and over with slight changes to the ingredient list. It boasts about having hundreds of recipes but I didn’t think that there would be four or five recipes for lasagna, for example, that are almost identical. I can create variations myself. I would have like to have seem more inventive recipes included. So I was disappointed. I must say that for the price I paid it is a good value. I’m not saying that there aren’t some good recipes included because there are but it wasn’t what I expected after reading the description.

Lots of canned soup "recipes" in a pretty book

A lot of canned soup and highly processed foods in a large percent of the recipes. This is a very good looking book, fun to look at, but the actual recipes are lacking.

  • Feasting with your Slow Cooker

Ummmmm. So good, I don’t know where to start. This is another of my very favorite cookbooks, for two reasons: First, I do SO love using my new crock pot slow cooker, and want to find a slow version of all those classics that my family has come to love. This book has quite a lot of them in it, so I spend less time searching for a recipe to swap out. The second reason are the Mennonite authors, Phyllis Pellman Good and Dawn Ranck. They have written many other great Fix-it and Forget-it cookbooks, such as the diabetic and light version. I really enjoy their collaborations. Phyllis is also the author of The Best of Amish Cooking, which I own and treasure. The book has a nice spiral binding, which helps it to lay flat during the cooking adventure. A wipe-clean cover is also handy for ...

  • Good basics, but not significant variety

This cookbook is great for people who don't have a great imagination for the kinds of things you might cook in a slow-cooker (aka me). However, this cookbook boasts hundreds of recipes, but the variety you will find is disappointing. Recipes look almost identical to each other; for example, one stew might omit carrots. Does that really call for two separate recipes? I like that they credit the authors of each recipe, but a little description of why it is their favorite, variations they've tried, or even a photograph would be wonderful. Also, of the few recipes I've tried, they are pretty bland. Pirate Stew could have used some serious kick; it is after all for pirates, right?! I haven't totally given up hope; I am going to try the swedish cabbage rolls (something that ...

  • the greatest thing since sliced bread!!

I do,nt exactly remember when the crock pot was created but it,s a good thing it was. I have read many crock pot cookbooks in my day but this one takes the cake. It has all kinds of time saving recipies and just plaiin good food ideas. I love my crock pot and use it year round. with out it I would be lost and this cookbook helps me keep my family fed and happy. you will love the variety of recipices and ideas they have for just about everything and some people do,nt realise that you can bake in a crock pot as well. Well I have tried some of the bread pudding recipies in there and they turned out great with rave reviews from the family. So if you want to try something good and different and not same old pot roast, try this book , it is wonderful . glad I got it .
