Sonic, Tails, and Dr. Robotnik return in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" for the Sega Genesis. This retro release is a milestone in the series as it was the first game to features Knuckles the Echidna. Rather than the hero who Knuckles is known to be, he is one of the antagonists in this Genesis game. When Robotnik's flying ship crashes onto Knuckles' home, Angel Island, the doctor convinces Knuckles that Sonic and Tails are the enemies. Throughout the course of this five-hour adventure, you will battle Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik through six zones, and each zone contains two levels. It is rated as suitable for all ages from kids to adults."Sonic the Hedgehog 3" provides similar gameplay as previous video games in the franchise. Play as either Sonic or Tails, and you'll jump and dash through each level. Speed is the name of the game, and these levels are built for you to run fast. Each of these stages is three times larger than the stages found in past Sega Genesis "Sonic" games, and you'll find an assortment of enemies to fight on each level, ranging from robotic fish to giant gorillas. Rings are scattered everywhere in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," and collecting 100 rings awards you an extra life. If you get hit, you'll lose all of your rings. It'll be game over if you get hit twice. Hidden throughout each level are secret bonus stages, and you could gain a Chaos Emerald when you complete the stage. Once you have all the Chaos Emeralds, you can change into Super Sonic, granting yourself new abilities."Sonic the Hedgehog 3" plays similar to previous "Sonic" Genesis games. It also possesses an array of new features. Sonic and Tails have all of their moves from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" along with new interactive powers, including Tails' ability to carry Sonic while flying and to transport the hedgehog to a new location. There are also new items in the game. The duo can pick up shields that absorb one hit from an enemy. These shields have special abilities attached to them, such as the Flame Shield that can turn Sonic into a fireball. He can also safely stand in fire without taking any damage. This title was the first "Sonic the Hedgehog" game to incorporate cutscenes between each zone. This Sega game also features a multiplayer mode called Competition mode, which allows two players to race in five different zones. Each zone has its level design patterned after a zone in the game. The music in this Sega title is excellent and is the work of over seven composers. Michael Jackson even helped to compose some of the music featured in this Sonic game.This title is a historic landmark in this franchise due to its introduction of Knuckles. It also features fun gameplay, a fantastic soundtrack, and jaw-dropping visuals.

Between being a part of Sonic's 2D glory days and being compatible with Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3 is a retro blast that screams quality. For the first time ever, play independently as Tails! More power-ups than ever before! If you love classic Sonic games, 3 is a must.

Rebuilding the collection I had in my youth, Sonic is a must have for all Sega Genesis retro fanatics! Sonic 2 is still my favorite of the original games, but 3 is up near the top of the list as well.

A great Sega Genesis title, and one of the most popular in the Sonic Fan community. This series title introduced Knuckles, the Enchidna. The game handles alot like Sonic 2, but with so much more. Old favorites like the Spin Dash and Shields return to the game, but this time, theres a twist. There are 3 different shield types, all of which give Sonic his own additional powers (Like the Bubble Shield allows you to breathe under water, the Lightning Shield magnetically attracts rings and the fire shield allows you to stand in lava and become a living fire ball! Another nice feature of this game, is that if you lock it on to Sonic and Knuckles, can experience the game in it's entirety, as well as play as Knuckles. The sprites themselves have been improved from it's predecessor, ... A great Sega Genesis title, and one of the most popular in the Sonic Fan community. Even when Sonic is moving at top speed, the game is not hard to control. The game also introduces a save feature, the first to be seen in a Sonic the Hedgehog game. The boss characters are imaginative and provide a great challenge. The levels steadily increase in difficulty, so the game doesn't get too hard too fast. The downside to this game is, once you've attained all the Chaos Emerald, you become Super Sonic (which can be done as early as the second zone), and the game becomes entirely to easy. Some bosses can kill themselves by running into you and you don't even need to lift a finger. All in all, I've always been a fan of the Sonic old school series. For it's time, the game is very innovative and fun for all ages!

For the first time Miles "Tails" Prower can fly on command!!! by far the easiest of the sonic series for the genesis partually due to the save feature. hook it together with sonic and knuckles(this may take a few tries to work properly) and now you can also play as Knuckles! This is the only game that featured the "super" emeralds that allowed sonic and knuckles to earn a special ability when they transformed into the "Hyper" stage. Also the only game to have a super tails. each of these stages consume two rings a second on the timer so use wisely!!! sonic gets harder to control due to a higher jump and double jump power.oh there are ... the third sonic game fro the genesis. beautiful sound, easier character control and some new powers come into play. Be warned Knuckles battles are far harder than sonic's or tail's troubles. this was also the first sonic game that had a traceable story though thre are no speech bubbles or voice audio. a game that can be beaten within two hours for each set of six levels and replayed to beat the game with all emeralds on your chioce of six, yes six save slots!! one more warning when your first "super" emerald has been earned the super function for Sonic or Knuckles is no longer available. also a multi ending game with a beaten, chaos, and super ending. super ending only obtained with sonic three and knuckles. by itself or combined an exciting play to enjoy over and over again.
