    Cheap way to get some good sounding tracks.

    Recording quality wise these sound pretty good. But it is what it is. There is a tape transport system that does need maintenance. . With a BRC you can do accurate edits, they are easy to use and if maintained, are pretty dependable. For location recording that is dumped into a DAW for later editing they are hard to beat. 8 tracks of lossless recording for less than $100. Many of your favorite albums were recorded on these. But an unmaintained ADAT will drive you to suicide. Do the maintenance and you'll be fine.

    Alesis ADAT XT20

    I purchased one of these because I have ADAT tapes I need to dub off to my computer mixing system. I don't recommend these devices for anyone. The technology is now over 20 years old and there area lots of computer based devices that work much better and with less trouble.
