Product Information

Based on the eponymous underground magazine and original art and stories by Richard Corben, Angus McKie, Dan O'Bannon, Thomas Warkentin and Berni Wrightson, this groundbreaking cult classic served as a crossover introduction for many Americans to the aesthetic conventions associated with Japanese anime. This unique collection of six animated stories are all linked by sequences featuring a fiendish green meteorite that claims to be the cause of evil throughout the world. A combination of science-fiction, fantasy, horror, comedy, and sex against a pulse pounding heavy metal soundtrack with songs by Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Stevie Nicks, Nazareth and other 80's rock giants. The video contains a three-minute segment that wasn't included in the theatrical version of the film.

    Heavy Metal - best DVD version

    This is a true classic animated film, a must have for any anime fan. The superbit release is the best quality until this will be released on blue ray format. According the press release review this version has an extra 3 minutes of footage. I haven't discovered where that is, but that's pretty cool. Some great music on this as well, I recommend getting the soundtrack on vinyl since there hasn't been a remastered CD release. The video quality is better on this DVD than the previous DVD release. I recommend this version very much for anime fans - one of the all time classic underground anime films. - funbebop

    Heavy Metal superbit

    The superbit is fantastic!!! This was my all-time favorite animation since I first saw it when I was a child. I was a little unhappy with the fact that the extra 3 minutes of footage and the other extras with the normal DVD were not on here. The quality makes up for it and I can always buy the regular DVD. I don't mind that for this particular movie. HIGHLY recommended for hi def T.V.!!!!
