NEST DROPCAM PRO - GET IT!!
Nest Dropcam Pro - I started out with one of these cameras prior to the Nest buyout. I knew zero about setting up home monitoring cameras. Within a half hour of the Dropcams arrival, I had not only had it up and running but I was viewing it on my iPhone. (app) Since then I have purchased two more and have seamlessly included them onto the set-up. (each new camera literally takes five minutes to set-up) The picture quality / video streaming is beautiful along with the different features of the app. As I stated, I now have three cameras up and running. It runs me $200.00 a year to have ALL THREE cameras record 24 - 7, in 10 day cycles to the cloud. I can easily view past footage (up to 10 days / other plans are available) if I need to. Great product, but worthless without Nest Aware subscription.
Out of the box this camera is sturdily built, easy to set up and use, and has good image clarity. Automatic switch between RGB and infrared works flawlessly. Realtime streaming latency is low. Activity and person detection is sensitive and rarely has false alarms. History viewing is intuitive and has full audio. However, once the trial period of Nest Aware expires, this product becomes almost immediately useless. Only static images triggered by activities in the past 3 hours are recorded. It would be a much better product if during the 3 hour window, full video and audio can be provided without subscription. Chose this over Logi Circle Webcam for its API support. Will test the API functionality to see if I would give it a higher rating. UPDATE: Another major issue worth to be pointed ... Nest Cam Does it All
It wasn't all that easy for me to set up with my WIFI router. You need to be within 8 feet with the original power cord plugged into your laptop to make this work. This was not in the instructions as I had to call technical support to learn this. Once I called the support team they were very helpful and everything went smoothly. They offer 24-7 support, and I called them after midnight EST and didn't have to wait, which was nice. Once installed, I was amazed at the quality and even night vision that this has. But even further, this unit detects sounds and the audio quality is superior. Speaking of audio, you can speak into the NEST camera through your cell phone. I set up to get push messages on my cell phone, and upon review, one of these was a missed phone call that I could hear ... It wasn't all that easy for me to set up with my WIFI router. I already have security cameras on another system that covers all the exterior parts of my home, but that system is not as user friendly and I have to review all the footage in Fast Forward mode to see what is going on. With the NEST camera, you get colored dots that reflect the different zones of coverage you set the camera up for. So once the camera sees or hears anything suspicious it marks the spot on the timeline at the bottom of the screen, which makes this system easy to review what happened in the past where these times are marked. I can then review my other security system at those specific times to see what happened outside. I highly recommend the new nest cam as it does so much more in a high degree of quality than anything else I have seen.

I would give it 5 stars..... but...
The camera works well, the flexibility is excellent and the notifications work well. The big problem I have is the settings for notifications. There is NO setting to get notifications based on time of day/week. On Foscam for example, I can set the camera to give notifications M-F 8-5PM. No such setting exists on Nest so I have to manually turn on/off the notifications when I leave and when I get home. This should be a "duh" programming feature but I guess not for Nest (at least yet). I did contact them with the suggestion. One big thing that I found the camera does is that it can track movement on the other side of glass. I have the camera inside my house pointing to my driveway and front of the house. For night, you have to turn off the IR lights or it will reflect off glass, but it ... The camera works well, the flexibility is excellent and the notifications work well. Solid choice for a home monitoring or baby camera
I've used one of these for a few years as a baby cam. It was pretty easy to mount and set up to work on my iPhone and iPad. The motion and sound detection works reasonably well once it gets some time to calibrate normal vs abnormal motion/sound. I haven't tried the fancier services where it will record the past 30 days of video or let you review clips of motion/sound from the past days. It does have a nice feature where it will automatically turn on/off when you leave/enter your house if you're using it as a security camera. I chose the Google camera over other brands because I trust Google to more likely get the security of the camera right so hopefully less chance of someone being able to abuse/control the camera without my permission.
