The Rolling Stone Magazine in a recent poll listed The Queen Is Dead as # 4 of all time greatest records. The singer, song writter team of Morrissey/Marr open the record with the Queen Is Dead, Take Me Back To Dear Old Blighty and Johnny's Rickenbacker feedback is now so uniquely identifiable, yet almost impossible to duplicate, as it happened by accident, more like it happened by providence, Johnny is past perfection here. The romp of a song goes on with Morrissey commenting on his lack of musical skills and the Queen agreeing, "You can not sing, Morissey replies, "You should hear me play piano". "I Know It's Over", is the winner for most maudlin, yet sadly truthful songs in Morrissey infinite cannon of uplifting tunes. A love affair that dies?? Hmmm, it does happen, but it's the sadness of the world that becomes inevitable, as that's the way it goes my love. "Never Had No One Never"....Now I'm on your p c screen and your on Morrisseys team, you are if you lasted to this point friend. Cemetary Gates, Oscar Wilde your on my side, enough said. Bigmouth Strikes Again ? Wonderful !! As your Ipod starts to melt, crank the sucker up, or blow it up !!Big Mouth Strikes Again!! A total favorite would be "The Boy With The Thorn Is His Side", where Morrissey all but discloses his choise and identity. How can they see the love in my eyes and still they don't believe me.... And after all this time, they don't want to believe us. The want of a lover becomes so strong , Morrissey and those he sings for will plunder the love they desire, if need be. "Behind the hatred is a murderous desire for love." Towards the end of the record comes a tune that Morrissey and his loyal camp of devotees have as an anthem for life, which brings us by no coincidence to,"There Is A Light That Never Goes Out". The June 07 Morrissey show at the Hollywood Bowl testifies to this truth. When Morrissey and crew began The Light, the Hollywood Bowl went crazy...with an energy of wildness, past any cult-like devotion. ***Reader, YOU friend, Meet Author, me, Molly Mae Morrissey. ***If you already have bought The Queen Is Dead ?,..BUY It AGAIN for the love you want to keep. A Fantastic Album!
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this album since it came out. The lyrics and the music have been etched into my brain. As a serious Smiths fan, I've heard all the songs, more times than could ever be counted, on every album and then some. "The Queen Is Dead", however, stands out more than the others. With great witty songs such as, "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others", "Big Mouth Strikes Again", and "Vicar In A Tutu", it's a definite "must listen to" album. Johnny Marr, the Smiths' guitarist, hits all the right notes and Morrissey's voice is as good as ever!
