Love The Dead, this was the start of their long and successful career.

This CD is a lot more worn than I was led to believe- cracked case, LOTS of scratches on the disc itself, but plays fine.

  • Working Man's Dead; a review by Dicky Neely

Workingman’s Dead: A Review By Dicky Neely Released by Warner Brothers Records in June of 1970, Workingman’s Dead was the fifth Grateful Dead album. It marked a bit of a change of direction for the iconic Bay Area jam band. This eight cut album was more of a studio product with arrangements closely akin to pop, rock and country songs. It worked well. For the sake of disclosure, I am not a Dead Head. I liked them but this is the only Dead album I ever owned, and is my favorite Dead work. It may not have the spontaneous energy of most of their albums but the songs are good and one, “Casey Jones,” is my all time favorite Dead song. Jerry Garcia had this to say about Working Man’s Dead: Workingman's Dead was our first true studio album, insofar as we went in there to say ...

  • Classic Must Have Dead Album

I had this years ago on vinyl and played it to death, then a tape, played it to death, then a used cd, played it to death, so this is at least my fourth copy. It's a bit more "country" than some other Dead albums but it's a classic must have.

  • Working Mans Dead

I have been a Dead Head for some time now. I have enjoyed many of The Dead's albums, such as American Beauty, Shakedown Street and such. Then I decided to give Working Mans Dead a try, since it was one of the few I hadn't had time to listen to. And to my surprise the album exceeded my expectations. I had heard this album was a lot more country like, but that was misinterpreted it is the most bluesy album I've heard in a while. With such works as "Cumberland Blues", "Black Peter", "New Speedway Boogie", and the infamous "Casey Jones". It was more of a collaboration of folk and blues rather than full out country. You can see that in titles such as "Dire Wolf", "Uncle John's Band" and "High Time". This ...
