Can't Fight Taylor's vocal power!
I remember buying this cassette in 1990. I was blown away as a kid by the great songs and amazing vocal talents of Taylor Dayne. I spent most of that year telling my friends about her. Most people argued that a white woman couldn't sing this way! Reward yourself with this great CD featuring 4 smash hit singles! Better yet, watch these videos on YouTube! She is gorgeous, in-shape, young & talented! This is Taylor at her peak! Hit singles include, "With Every Beat Of My Heart" #5, "Love Will Lead You Back" #1, "I'll Be Your Shelter" #3,"Heart of Stone" #12. Honorable mention tracks include," Up All Night". This song was issued as a promo 12" single but never shipped to stores nor to radio. This is a classic Taylor ... I remember buying this cassette in 1990. Worthy quantities in an unlikely place
Not really a huge fan of Taylor's, but I heard one song on this album and it changed my mind. She has a fantastic voice. Occasionally it is put to good use, in a song that showcases her particular stylings. There are a few very good songs on the disc. There's also a good deal of filler material. The production is very '80s' (largely synthetic, drum machines and very synth keys), but sometimes this provides a decent foil for the roughness of her voice. I wouldn't say it's lyrically deep, but it's certainly a step up from the 'Tell It To My Heart' stuff that came out a bit earlier. Arista was poised to take Taylor Dayne beyond the dance tracks and drum beats which established her as a force to be reckoned with on her smash debut Tell It to My Heart. Can't Fight Fate, her sophomore outing, featured much more straight-ahead rock & roll, lush production, and top-notch songwriters (including Diane Warren, who penned her biggest hit "Love Will Lead You Back"). The album proved an even bigger success than her debut, scoring two Top Ten hits, one number one hit, and one Top 20 hit.
