Paul McCartney in Red Square DVD

Excellent video of Paul's concert in Russia's Red Square. The narrative between songs explaining the difficulties of the Russian people to obtain records in the past makes me appreciate living in the free world. The band's performance is excellent as well as the song selections. One aspect with regard to the editing that I do not like is that it jumps too fast between the band and the individual close ups of the musicians and the crowds. I would rather see more of the band's performance, but I still enjoy the DVD and watch often. A better choice would be McCartney's DVD box set 'Good Evening New York City' which has four discs: one DVD of the Citi Field concert, one DVD with the band performing on the roof of the marque at Ed Sullivan Studios and CD's with the music form the two separate ...

  • Awesome! Two Concerts for the Price of One!

Paul at its best!!! Given the fact, that the Beatles were banned in the Soviet Union and - as all things banned - had a huge following, this first-ever concert by an ex-Beatle drew enormous crowds and truly had a special chemistry. The camera showed some people completely overtaken by emotions and crying. The President of the country welcomed Paul and even gave him a personal tour of the Kremlin! I very much enjoyed watching this concert, which also has some historical footage of Beatlemania in the USSR. The icing on the cake, though, is a bonus St. Petersburg concert which was awesome! You get two concerts for the price of one! No two songs repeat either. If you are a McCartney/Beatles Fan - buy this - you won't regret it!!!

  • Superb concert and history lesson wrapped up in one DVD

Superb concert / documentary with a history lesson into the Beatles' impact on the former Soviet Union. The Soviet government attempted to surpress western influences, especially rock music, but nothing they did could keep the Beatles from seeping into the hearts and minds of the populace. A funny but telling moment in the film describes how public telephones were cannibalized in order to use the parts to build make-shift phonographs. The Beatles are given credit throughout the film as one of the many western forces which contributed toward the eventual fall of the Soviet empire. Best moment of course is when Paul breaks into "Back In The USSR"... the place goes nuts. McCartney loads up the play list with an abundance of Beatle music, and you know that can't be bad. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! ** ...

  • The Entertainer

Be he your favorite Beatle or not, or some younger folks might only know Wings or maybe just his solo career, Paul McCartney always delivers a great show. I learned alot about the changing times of Russian life, and how the Beatles recordings were such a prized possesion during the Cold War. A highlight for me was when Putin arrived at the show and the description Paul gives from his stage perspective. I was left with a warm heart when you see so many people all singing the words to the Beatle songs always amazing! Great DVD, fun watch!

  • Great DVD for all music fans, not just Beatles

I bought this as a Birthday present for my brother-in-law who is a big beatles fan. I caught this on TV one night & although I am not a fan of the Beatles or Paul McCartney myself, I really enjoyed watching this DVD. The music is very good, but what really got me was the music combined with the backdrop & beauty of Red Square. It also does a great job of mixing in history & the historical significance of this concert between songs. I learned a lot & was very entertained.
