About this product

Product Information

The fascinating natural habitat of the Giant Panda opens up to the public on this cinematic trip to China. Originally shot for the IMAX format, the action begins in 1936, with Ruth Harkness (Maria Bello) arriving in China to settle the estate of her late husband. A paradox lies at the heart of his death, which occurred while he was out observing the Giant Panda--he believed it was a peaceful creature, while hunter, Dakar Johnson (Xander Berkeley) believed them to be unruly, vicious animals. Sadly the actions of people like Johnson have made it hard for others to make up their own minds, as the Giant Panda teeters perilously on the brink of extinction. Harkenss sets out to observe the animals for herself so she can make up her own mind about them, and encounters some extraordinary scenes, which are superbly captured on film in this moving, historically fascinating release.

  • A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DVD

This is a superbly done account of how the first Panda came to America, but it's far more as the WWF explains. I'd recommend this to kids over five; young adults, and all who still haven't made up their minds if a Panda is a bear or a raccoon. There's only one brief scene where the "lesser Panda" is seen in a tree, but these creature are more raccoon-like. Having visited the Sichuan Panda reserve and also hiked thru some of the mountainous terrain gives one a fair idea of the magnitude in Wild China which spreading civilization has now reduced to a mere 5,000 acres of country suitable for Panda habitat. I was lucky to have seen a snow-leopard once in western Yunnan. They are an even more endangered species native to China's forested mountains. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DVD

  • A wonderful classic, beautifully made

Truthfully, we purchased so many DVDs this month, we have not been able to view China, the Panda Adventure; however, I am giving this 5 stars because I saw a portion of it on TV and it looked to be a wonderfully made documentary-type presentation - just the kind I love. Thank you very much for asking.

  • Good Family Movie!

I love pandas! Therefore, I love this movie. It is based on a true story though. It was wonderful to see the completion of a dream. The scenery is fantastic. It makes you want to be there to enjoy the surroundings.

  • Great movie

This is a great movie for anyone who loves panda bears. This tells the storey of one womans desire to find and prove that panda bears are real to whole world, following the foot steps of her late husband.
