    One iconic actor, one collection, six movies - five of which are great!

    This collection contains five of the critically acclaimed Ranown Cycle of westerns starring Randolph Scott and directed by Budd Boetticher. These movies are lean, spare, and efficient; all clocking in under 80 minutes. Three (generally considered the better ones) were written by Burt Kennedy and share a similar structure and theme. The other two were written by Charles Lang, and while similar in many ways to the Kennedy scripts, are significantly different in tone: Decision at Sundown is by far the most bleak, and Buchanan Rides Alone is much lighter. Scott was near the end of his career while making these, and in fact retired after Comanche Station (1960) - although he did return for one more movie, Ride the High Country (1962), before retiring for good. That one is also worth ...

    Very disappointed. Just not that good. Would not watch any of them again. Maybe "The Tall T". It's not Randolph Scott.....it's the movie.

    THE BEST OF THE BEST!

    Are you a fan of the classic westerns? Then by all means this is a must have cd. Randolph and John are the ultimate of the genre. The "man gotta do what a man's gotta do" no nonsense western. Eastwood is good but no one can beat the American made Scott and Wayne movies. This is six of his best. My opinion...Tall T the winner..Richard Boone doing a great supporting act. Having the best laugh in show business, it was usually written into his scripts. Scott and Boone are great in this film. You can't go wrong.

    A mixed bag with goodies

    If you like Westerns this collection is worth having, but, face it, like most of Hollywood B movie quality predominates. There is nothing wrong with that, it's part of the attraction. Bud Boetticher who directed most of these used his resources superlatively, getting the most out of what must have been a lean budget, and most of these are really great! A few films come off badly like offhand prime time TV. On whole that doesn't detract from the overall quality of the collection. "The tall T" must be the crown jewel. based on an Elmore Leonard ("Hombre," "3:10 to Yuma) story, it brings out the best in its cast, Scott, Sullivan, Boone.
