About this product

Product Information

Liu Kang is dead. The combined forces of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi (the titular "Deadly Alliance") have contrived the demise of Earth's greatest champion. Thus begins Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, the fifth title in the series, and the first to fully encompass 3D gameplay mechanics of the ilk offered by Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive. Utilizing this new feature, players are now able to maneuver around the environments, as well as sidestep attacks. Also new to the series is the characters' ability to change fighting styles at will during a bout. Based upon numerous real-life martial arts, characters now possesses two hand-to-hand styles and one weapon style, each offering unique move sets and combination maneuvers. The roster of playable characters includes old favorites, such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Cyrax, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi, along with newcomers Frost, Mavado, and Blind Kenshi, among others.

Fatalities, the hallmark of the series, are alive and well, with each character capable of performing grotesque acts of violence, accompanied by geysers of over-the-top blood and gore. Arcade and Versus mode perform their perfunctory duties; allowing players to compete in a series of matches against increasingly tougher AI opponents or against a human competitor, respectively. Konquest is essentially a training mode that introduces players to the various facets of the gameplay. Here, basic scenarios must be completed using any character of your choosing. Continued play in both the Konquest and Arcade modes rewards players with various forms of Kurrency (Sapphire, Onyx, Jade, Ruby, Gold, and Platinum Koins).

These "Koins" can then be used to unlock one of over 600 Koffins, each containing hidden content such as secret characters, alternate outfits, concept art, development images, promotional materials, and other miscellany. Additionally, these Koins can be wagered, and subsequently won or lost, in multiplayer battles against friends. Mini-games dubbed "Test Your Might" and "Test Your Sight" are also included, the first a homage to the rapid button-tapping event found in the first Mortal Kombat, while the second requires focus on a particular cup as a group of them are shuffled about.

Arrived safely and in excellent condition! Seller even contacted me to make sure I understood it was just the case with the cover that I'm buying and not getting the game CIB (complete in box) and even offered a refund if I wasn't aware. I messaged back to assure him that I understood, and why I needed the case. He understood and shipped it promptly. I appreciate him being conscientious of his customers like that.

    Another great game

I love the different features of game play. The practice gives an old gamer like me a chance to learn the new characters and thier moves. I haven't been disappointed in any MK titles yet and this was a quality game, Boon and Tobias legacy continues to deliver, finish him!

    Better Than MK4

Wonky gameplay that can only be controlled entirely using the Gamecubes tiny D-pad; blatantly unfair & inaccurate hitboxes, and unresponsive combo inputs with variations implemented by default instead of being selected like in later games (MKX & 11) means I cant give this game any higher than a 3. The concept of how this game does variations is great, its just counter-intuitive to the gameplay and just makes you wish there was a full-fledged move list for a character instead of their moves being divided into 2 other different playstyles; because of this, some button inputs are useless with a variation because their inputs can only be combos for particular variations. The roster is better than MK4. If you want a better roster, i'd recommend MK Deception.

  • Next-Gen Fighting

Anyone who is a fan of the MK series will want this game. It has a solid fighting engine with three separate fighting styles per character. The variety of styles help the game from from being repetative. The directional controls are a little cumbersome unill you get used to using the D-Pad (analog stick does nothing). The Konquest mode is basically a tutorial where you complete various moves for the selected character. Along the way you will learn different tidbits of information for each character, whether it is story info for histories of the fighting styles. You will collect koins in both Konquest & arcade mode. These koins can be exchanged to unlock koffins in the Krypt. The koffins contain various unlockables (some of them being Kombatants). I give this game a 4 out of 5.

  • Perfect

As far as gamecubes games go, perfect. It worked with no problem, and was great nostalgia. You know your old when a fame you played as a kid is called retro....
