Before I bought it I asked though if it was the clamp with the yellow pads or the one with the black pads, because the product image showed 2 different clamps. The seller said it was the yellow model. I received the black model. (note: other differences aside from color). The return was no hassle and every communication was positive with the seller.

    These work the best.

    The main problem I have had with other split ring pliers is the flat jaw extends further than the jaw that has the triangle (ring opener) on it. This caused the ring to turn horizontal to the jaws instead of staying perpendicular to them. For me, this was very awkward to try and open and install the rings. These plier jaws are the same length and hold the ring perpendicular to the jaws which (for me) makes them easier to install. I have used these on ring sizes 1 thru 5 and they worked well on all of those sizes.

    Texas split ring pliers are the best for me because of their design.

    Of all the split ring pliers on the market, these are easily in the top three brands. I have 3 pair and they work better than most because of the positioning of the forcing piece on the extended lower jaw. Works every time and I've never shot a split ring across the room when the ring came off the kind with the forcing piece right at the end of the lower jaw. These hold the ring open as long as you hold the handles together when you're trying to get a split ring on a small or difficult bait.
