About this product

Product Information

Italian horror master Dario Argento pays homage to THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which he would remake a decade later, with this film about a hooded killer who torments the opera diva whom he adores. Cristina Marsillach stars as Betty, a young understudy who gets a chance to star in a production of Verdi's Macbeth when the lead breaks her leg. Her performance receives universal acclaim and also attracts the hooded killer who periodically kidnaps Betty, tapes razor blades under her eyes, and forces her to watch him commit murder. Like most of Argento's films, OPERA is long on style and short on sense, but among his work during the 1980s and 1990s, OPERA is one of the few bright spots.

  • Make sure to keep your eyes open when viewing this Argento classic.

Because that’s the only piece of advice I can give to you before watching the following film. Following a three-year hiatus from the director’s chair, Italian horror master Dario Argento returns with the most fiercely striking thriller of his career. Up-and-coming opera singer Betty (Cristina Marsillach) becomes an overnight sensation as the lead in an avant-garde presentation of Verdi’s Macbeth. Nevertheless, Betty soon causes the sanity of a demented fan who constantly forces her to watch the fierce murders of her friends and colleagues. Can the diva unmask the killer’s identity in time before she becomes the final victim? Ambitious and artistically stylish, “Opera” would combine the sexually disquieting subtexts of “Deep Red” and “Tenebre” with the over-the-top murder set-pieces of ...

  • Great movie, great special edition

Love this movie. Until a Blu-Ray becomes available, this is the best version available. I love having something different like a soundtrack CD as a bonus instead of EPK interviews or other nonsense.
