This will save your receivers HDMI board
After having a long drawn out warranty issue (like almost everyone else with a modern HDMI receiver) I decided to try a proactive approach when I got my warranty replacement receiver. One tech had told me that the problem was excess heat on the wave soldered HDMI board would compromise the solder joints and lead to failure. As a matter of fact, one of the suggested repairs was to use a heat gun to re-heat the board to flow the solder, which is a gamble and may or may not work. So...after a fair bit of research, I ordered the Airplate T3. I first just wanted to see what my system was running at without the fans. With the thermostat sensor suspended 1 inch above my receiver in my AV cabinet with the door closed, I got a reading of 138 Deg F !!! I put 1 airplate in the hole in the top of my ... I put 1 airplate in the hole in the top of my cabinet meant for a light, and it fit perfect. Dropped my temps to about 119 with the door closed... pretty good, but I still wasn't happy yet. I bought 2 more fans since the controller supports up to 4 I think, and these have the rubber feet on them so I could sit them directly onto the receiver cooling vents. Viola! Now we are talking. The temp never gets above 90 deg F with the door closed and it is quiet, since the fans don't have to kick into high gear. I set the temp pretty low at 82 Deg F so the fans start early and don't have to catch up from a thermal run-away. I have been running this setup for months now, and no HDMI or any other receiver issues at all, and I "think" my expensive receiver will last a lot longer for the effort. Highly recommended!
