About this product

Product Information

Superman has recognized at last the greatest threat to humanity, and he is out to rid the world of nuclear weapons. But Lex Luthor, now a nuclear arms entrepreneur, creates Nuclear Man--a solar-powered Kryptonia Android and genetic clone whose powers equal (and potentially surpass) those of Superman--to rid the world of the Man of Steel. Christopher Reeve once again dons the Superman costume, this time for director Sidney J. Furie (LADY SINGS THE BLUES), receiving wonderful support from regulars Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and Jackie Cooper in addition to newcomers Mariel Hemingway and Jon Cryer.

  • He's a grown man in blue tights... lighten up!

While this film is probably the worst of the four Christopher Reeves renditions of the Man of Steel, remember this... It's still better than Superman Returns. Seriously, the film does get a little too anti-nuke propaganda-y but what do you expect from the 80's. It was bound to happen. At least Clark isn't a dead beat dad stalking around the windows of his ex at night... plus considering the continuity timeline they used for the film he's also a date rapist slipping Lois a "mickey" so she'd forget about the whole encounter. Anyway, Superman IV still holds the distinction of being a fun (sometimes tedious) throwback to the Silver Age when a guy in tights and a cape still was planted firmly in the world of Fantasy versus one trying to conform to the real world. Buy the DVD, and some popcorn, ...

  • A movie with a message.

A good film despite the fact Reeve considered it as "simply a catastrophe from start to finish". It was a lift from the flop "Superman III" but does not pack the charm and magic of "Superman The Movie" or "Superman II". No fault of the director or Reeve but of Cannon Films who had too many irons in the fire at that time. It's a good story if one sets aside the first two Superman films and just enjoy it as it is, a comic book hero story. I was hesitant of purchasing it to add to the first two in my collection (I refuse to purchase Superman III) but am now glad I did buy Superman IV.

  • "Not Bad Underrated Sequel!"

Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder star in this 1987 action sequel. The Man of Steel tries to rid the world's nuclear arms and faces Lex Luthor's Nuclear Man. This isn't a bad sequel that's underrated. Chris had a good story, but Cannon screwed up the film with cheesy effects and cut out too many scenes. Gene is great as Lex as usual and I'm glad he came back. This dvd has good picture and sound plus deleted scenes, commentary and the trailer. I still recommend this.

  • Superman we need World peace.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is an enjoyable movie for it is like Superman II and Superman Returns combine. People and objects are being saved against a bad person or people. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace has Jonathan Niven Jon Cryer from the tv show Two and a Half Men. I really enjoy Superman IV: The Quest for Peace because of the super villain Nuclear Man in which there is like three characters in the DC Comics with the name Nuclear Man. I would love to see Mr. Mxyzptlk in a Superman movie for Mr. Mxyzptlk is funny. I have Superman Returns on DVD and have to say that I Love you Superman!

  • So bad it's good

Yes, this movie was arguably the worst of all the Superman films. But the dvd covers the debacle in such an in-depth way that it's well worth the money. One of the writers of the film contributed a high quality film commentary. At times it does seem like he's doing a long negative movie review(much like this one), but he gives you a lot of insight into what was going on with the movie production company and he appears to be the only person humble enough to admit the failures of the film. It is more fun to watch the film with the commentary as it seems more like a comedy with all of the mistakes being pointed out as they happen. What makes this dvd even more entertaining are the deleted scenes. There are plenty of them, since the film was originally intended to be much longer. There ...
