About this product

Product Information

Cora (Madeleine Stowe) and her younger sister, Alice (Jodhi May), both recent arrivals to the colonies, are being escorted to their father, Colonel Munro (Maurice Roeves), by a troop of British soldiers. Along the way they are ambushed by a Huron war party led by Magua (Wes Studi), a sinister warrior with a blood vendetta against Munro. Munro's soldiers are wiped out and Cora herself is nearly killed by Magua but is saved at the last moment by Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), a white trapper raised by the Mohican tribe. Hawkeye promises to take Cora and her sister safely to their father, and along the way Cora and the intense Hawkeye fall in love. Together they must survive wilderness, war, and the relentless pursuit of Magua. Returning to the theme of a great love threatened by overwhelming circumstances, director Michael Mann hits the mark with an adaptation that captures the essence of the book and its historical details perfectly. Day-Lewis and Stowe are beautiful to watch, delivering moving performances as two people trying to hold on to each other in times of war. In addition, the Native American political activist Russell Means makes an oustanding film debut as Chingachgook, Hawkeye's adopted father and last of the Mohicans.

    A don't miss movie.

Great release of a classic. The music is fantastic. Acting superior. Can go wrong if you have never seen this and are into history.

  • A Complex Story, Great Cinematography, Great Acting,

This is a complex story drawn from James Fenimore Cooper's classic from the 19th Century--well done in 1992. Daniel Day-Lewis plays Hawkeye (actually Nathaniel Poe) who was adopted by the Mohican chief Chingachgook after his white parents were killed. We see him at the first of the movie running through the trees in supposed 1751, and we know that he is the hero. But until the plot goes further along, we do not know whether the British or the French are the good guys. Actually, Hawkeye would like to go to Can-tuck-ee, but he gets wrapped up in the French and Indian War when he intercepts a Huron attack of a British caravan carrying the 2 lovely daughters of Colonel Ed Munro (Maurice Roeves)--Cora (Madeleine Stowe) and Alice (Jodhi May). The 2 girls travelled from England to be with ...

  • Important history great music

Among our Classic Films. Should be saved in every collection. Important history of French and Indian War. Early pre-revolutionary struggles of our country, settlement and relationship with native American's. It should reveal the pain that native american's suffered as well as the pain of the European settlers. Exceptional production, cast and enviroment. True view of Adirondics. Musical score alone should be preserved and listend by itself. Tom

  • One of the BEST epic movies ever!

This is an incredible movie; great acting, beautiful scenery, great love story ( I will find you! ) great cinematography, fantastic moving soundtrack, and fantastic directing. This movie is probably in my top 10 favorite movies. Daniel Day Lewis is, as always, incredible and the man who played the main evil Indian should have won an Oscar. More than any other movie, this one baffles me why it did not win any Oscars
