Panasonic's first digital camera with a high-capacity SuperDisk drive, the Panasonic PV-SD4090 PalmCam SuperDisk digital camera is an advanced model that takes the PalmCam digital camera line further into the computer age. The PV-SD4090 saves its images on a 120MB SuperDisk diskette, which can hold up to 1, 500 images. The camera is also compatible with traditional 1.44MB floppy disks, which will hold up to 17 images.The PV-SD4090 digital camera uses a 1.3 million-pixel charged coupled device (CCD) to take photos that are extremely crisp and vivid. These images can then be viewed on the built-in, bright 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, and deleted if desired or saved for later use. To view, e-mail or incorporate preferred images into personal or business documents, remove the SuperDisk diskette or floppy disk from the camera, place it into the corresponding SuperDisk or floppy drive on a standard PC and retrieve the image file. The SuperDisk camera is also USB-compatible, enabling the camera to be connected via the included cable, to the USB port on a PC or MAC for a much faster data transfer rate than the usual serial port connection. And, when connected to the computer via the USB cable, the camera can also double as an eternal SuperDisk drive to backup all of your data. The camera uses one lithium ion battery, which can be recharged in the included charger. The camera also features a built-in flash for low-light situations and an automatic multiple flash function to reduce the occurrence of "red eyes" in the subjects. The PalmCam digital camera is equipped with a 3: 1 optical zoom for close up shots, equivalent to a 34-102mm lens on a standard 35mm camera. An added 2x digital zoom can also be used for picking up details of faraway images. Other features include a self-timer and automatic white balance. The aperture can be set at F2.8 or F8, and shutter speed is automatically adjusted from 1/30th to 1/750th of a second. (1/4th to 1/750th of a second in slow shutter mode.)

My PV-SD4090 is +3 years old and still Kicking
Greetings, I purchased my camera new as a low-cost alternative to the Sony Disc cameras of the day. It has the Super-Disk with plenty of storage, and you can also use floppies as an alternative. The higher resolution images are a decent 250K .jpg average size. And if a guest/friend wanted a copy of a pic . . . just hand it to them on a floppy. I've taken more than 5000 pics thus far and the original battery is just now short-cycling. I feel my original $250 was well spent. OK, the cons. This camera is 'Man Size' to say the least. It is slow to 'wake-up' and takes around 5-seconds to store a pic (less for lower-res pics, but why would you do that). I'll finish with some more pros. It can use a floppy which were cheap until recently. The battery lasts until you are tired of taking ... I bid on this camera because I already had one like it and was very pleased with the results. If you are looking for a compact, lightweight camera to carry in your pocket-keep looking! This camera is neither compact nor lightweight. It has the heft and feel of a classic 35mm SLR. It is huge by today's standards, but the weight and size make it easy to handle and operate. Camera movement during a photo has ruined many shots, but a heavier camera is less likely to move than a lightweight. The big LCD screen is easy to see and compose your photo. There is no optical viewfinder but that is not a drawback. The 1.3mp resolution sounds very low considering today's digital cameras run well over 8mp. That means you can't expect to make sharp 8x10 prints, just 3x5 or so. But 1.3mp is perfect for ... I bid on this camera because I already had one like it and was very pleased with the results. You can get good close-ups and view your composition easily, and end up with photos that are ready to upload without having to trim them down to the proper dpi. Finally, you can store your photos on plain, ordinary 1.4mb floppy disks! It has a built-in floppy drive instead of a memory card. It not only can use standard floppy disks, but also the 120mb Superdisks! You can take a lot of photos on one Superdisk and then insert the disk in your PC Superdisk drive to transfer the photos to your PC. If you don't have a Superdisk drive, the camera can be connected to your PC with a USB cable. All in all, this camera is great if you want to take photos that will be uploaded to the internet. Just don't expect to put it in your pocket.

Panasonic PV-SD4090 is an excellent choice for little $
These cameras were prices around $900.00 at the peak of their existence. Now that they are almost a decade old and disks obsolete, they seem worthless. However, if you can get your hands on one of these models, you will be glad you did. I own 3 (one for parts). This camera takes clear crisp beautiful professional photos. Yes it is a little slow to write, and the hard drive is noisy, but for Ebay purposes you can't go wrong. They are perfect for still shots. These models are still all over the place and they are cheap! They were originally compatible with Windows ME, but they can be used with XP (Vista, not sure)and Windows 7 but only 32 bit Operating systems. I have another digital camera that is new and was just as expensive. The SD4090 still blows it out of the water. If you want a great ... Bought an SD-4090 new about 4 years ago & paid almost $500. Recently, paid just a small fraction of that for a used one. No problems with the first which is still using the original battery, but I wanted to get all the spare equipment. This camera is large and outdated by today's standards, but is very simple to use and with take an excellent picture at the 1.3 fine setting while fitting 11 shots on a floppy or 976 on a super disk. Using 125K or less of storage, the pictures email in a flash and even make acceptable notebook paper size prints. Have never felt the need to use the super fine or the normal picture setting.
