Decent entry in Seagalogy.
Most people have come to expect little, if anything, in Seagal's recent films. Assuming they expected anything to begin with. And this being his 4th film of 2005, its tendency to expose its rushed production is more often than we'd like to see. However, the toy jet opening aside, "Submerged" is not nearly the catastrophe it has been written off as. Me, being the sympathizer of abandoned film, I see the good in all. "Submerged" has a lot of plot to it. In fact, a little too much because it never fully, or justifiably, presents closure to most of the plot points. We have the brain washing, the political assassination, the FBI involvement, the submarine plot, and a few other points that come and go. In fact, there are a lot of characters in "Submerged" and a very decent cast fills the shoes, and they pull their weight just fine which is odd for a Seagal, or any of the Sony action genre, film. Always pleasant to have some change. The eBay description is incorrect. Knowing that "Submerged" went through a near total plot overhaul at the 12th hour will provide more empathy for the players involved. The original synopsis actually sounds quite intriguing with the monstrous creatues in the deep. However, none of this made it to the final film. And the submarine plot lasts all of 15 minutes...yet the film was named after that? Interesting. The plot instead has to do with a group of Delta Force elites being captured by a mad scientist in South America and being brain washed to eliminate politcal figures. Seagal and his Black Ops team are freed from prison to retrieve these captured commandos, and ultimately find themselves aboard a submarine trailing the mad scientist to Uruguay (yes, it is a country) in hopes to thwart another planned assassination of the "el presidente". Which is Uruguyan for President, I believe. Who says action films aren't educational? Vinnie Jones and William Hope round out the supporting cast. Along with a fairly brief supporting role from 80s B movie Pro Kickboxer turned actor, Gary Daniels. Probably the best supporting cast Seagal has seen since he lost his theatrical throne. Now, being that such a strong cast is with Seagal, Seagal has a fairly limited role in "Submerged". He has 2 fights that are barely 55 seconds long, and while they are entertaining, one gets the idea that these were only included because Seagal MUST fight a man in a suit with broad shoulders. MUST. One thing that I will praise is the direction. Aside the before mentioned toy jet planes, "Submerged" is a very slick film and has some stunt and disaster scenes that could pass for a theatrical quality. Not to mention some truly inspired shots. Director Anthony Hickox is no stranger to film, and he shows he can still muster some cinema mojo when he wants to. "Submerged" is easy to make fun of because the first 10 minutes are so...terrible. It likely kills the mood for many and they can never recover from it. And reading the reviewer before me who flat out admits he turned the film off after 30 minutes yet was still able to slander the film, I have no doubt many who talk bad of it did the same. Tough out the first 10 minutes, and it gets much better. "Submerged" is fun, and can be very entertaining. I can recomend it. Crucify me now...

Me & my daughter love Steven Seagal & collect as many of his movies as we can. I bought this one 2 times - one for me & one for my daughter. Very good movie.

After about 30 minutes I gave up............ First off, what's up with the super-dooper fakey spy plane in the beginning? They can afford to have a helicopter to shoot scenes in, but the background is so obviously computer generated? What a joke. Lots and lots of shooting though. For so called best-of-the-best professional soldiers, they couldn't hit the walls of a barn if they were standing inside the barn. There's one scene in which 200+ of the baddies with automatic weapons and a TANK are being held off by like 4 or 5 goodies with automatic machine-pistols. They're in a tunnel, like 100 feet from each other, firing hundreds if not thousands of rounds and like nobody gets hit? What a joke. One of the boring-ist scenes I've ever had to sit through.
