About this product

Product Information

In one of director Brian DePalma's (DRESSED TO KILL, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE) many cinematic tributes to Hitchcock (this one borrows from VERTIGO), Cliff Robertson portrays an American businessman whose wife and child are killed in a botched kidnap rescue effort. Years later, while in Italy, the still-distraught widower begins an affair with a woman (Genevieve Bujold) whose resemblance to his late wife is rather uncanny. The script was co-written by Paul Schrader (TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL).

  • Buy the color VHS, NOT the poor quality DVD remake in black and white.

Buy this VHS instead of the DVD offered on Amazon. The DVD remake is not in color. Since the movie seems to have been filmed in color with what looks like soft focus to give a dreamy effect in some scenes, the transfer to black and white is grainy and unclear, not atmospheric. The black and white is cheap-looking, unlike transfers of the earlier recent quality film noir transfers from the 40s and the 50s. If possible, have the color video transferred to DVD (legally). The film itself is excellent, especially Bernard Herrmann's score--real Hitchcock feel. Great cast also, esp. John Lithgow and Catherine Deneuve, who is at her most sensuous (not in a cheap way). The five stars are for the VHS and original movie, not the abominable travesty of the DVD transfer, which would rate minus ...

  • DE'JE VUE ALL OVER AGAIN!

Loved this classic! All the mystery, plot-twists, crackling performances run amuck in this stylish thriller. Cliff is solid as always, and Mr Lithgow is at his sinister best (one of the best heavies in the business) stepping out of comedy for this one. No dislikes, and I bought this movie for transfer to disc for my collection; highly recommend this flick, especially if Brain DePalma is your cup of tea.

  • Tape cartridge was received crackes and wasn't viewable

I don't kow if it was damaged in transit or not, but I was very disappointed. THis was a fvaorite movie of mine from the past.
