Tremendous camera (pro photographer with 45+ years experience)

This is a very satisfying camera to use all the way around. It has superb image quality and RAW files with incredible detail and depth. JPEG/JPG files are the same, although I don't use those as often. It is very ergonomic -- feels good in the hand -- including (when used) a very nicely designed vertical grip. Legacy lenses from Minolta are superb - the images have a wonderful "fire" and quality about them - and those lenses are fairly plentiful and cost-effective, too. But if you want more modern glass, the Zeiss, Sigma Art, and higher end Tamron lenses are absolutely marvelous. The viewfinder is bright, clear, and gives 100% of the image. The shutter has a nice "clunk" to it. Battery life is incredible. Camera covers all the basics extremely sell. You won't get a few things ...

  • Sony alpha 900 DSLR Camera

This is a full frame, or 35mm equivilent, DSLR Pro level Camera. While it does a great job with an "Auto" setting it really shines when used in "manual" mode. And while it does not have an on-board flash it has advanced features to use flashes on the hot shoe or off camera. This what we all wanted back when is old guys were learning to shoot Kodak film!

  • Team Alpha gets a ringer

I've wanted an Alpha 900 for a while. Glad to find a lower-count body for a good price, the vertical grip makes it look like a slightly bigger version of my Minolta Maxxum 600si... it will be great to use them together and have the ability to set up shots with the DSLR and then just swap the bodies and shoot some 35mm slides or b&w. everything was packed in original boxes, it felt like bringing it home from the Sony Store ('member the Sony Store? I 'member!), in newish condition considering there was almost 20k actuations (good for 100k at least I have read). this is now the new cornerstone of my photo kit. big smiles here!

  • Sony A900 DSLR

Great color and detail in this 24 Meg full-frame Sony, compared to its (C - Capture plate) little brother, the 12 Meg A700. Their two menu's are almost identical, which as a former A700 user is helpful. I found the full-frame shutter a bit noisy, and even with its 2 on-board processors, the A900 takes a while to write 4-6 quick shots to the memory card... but no image loss. All in all, I'm glad I moved up to the A900.

  • One of the best full frame camera that is going extinct

It is most unfortunate to see Sony has seized manufacturing this amazing full frame camera. The last of its kind with Sony as they have switched to their Translucent Mirror Technology. No longer can one see through a traditional prism and see the actual image of what is to be shot. To actually see the image through the prism makes a world of a difference, especially in low light situation, where the Translucent mirror gives the image onto an electronic viewfinder, even with the OLED with the A77, which I also have, the image becomes unreadible under low light situation where the viewfinder will be flooded with noise. I hope if when Sony comes up with their A900 replacement, they can retain the prism design, which is one of the best thing about traditional camera design and I believe ...
