Might be hard for a beginner.

I went to the internet to get the best use of the disc and picture after my first attempt came out too dark. I leave the tv on the custom setting and am very satisfied I have the best picture my tv can provide. If this seems too hard perhaps another calibration disc such as Disney's is for you.

  • Not better than AVIA...

Since having a Blu-Ray player I wanted a blu-ray calibration disc. Apparently DVE is the only one, so I got this. Although it has great explanations about HD, some of the calibrations are difficult, particularly Color. The blue filter is very dark and puts some strain on the eyes, also there's no explanation for the Hue/Tint setting, which (this from forums) apparently is used for fine tuning Color. There's only one pattern for Contrast that doesn't work with my TV, which doesn't clip white level and the calibration relies on clipping. AVIA and AVIA based Sound & Vision calibration DVDs are easier and versatile; I guess I'll combine until they release an HD version. So, make sure that your TV clips white level and you have other blue filters (THX have nice 3D type glasses), if not, try ...

  • it looks great.

I bought the DVE Blu-ray calibration disc. The TV I own is in my signature. Now I use my PS3 as my blu-ray player and mainly as my game player. I started to calibrate my TV and I had my HDMI setting on my PS3 set to "Limited", and one of the black bars were being clipped. Then when I changed my HDMI to "Full" it displayed the 3 black bars thus made me keep it that way. So I calibrated my brightness, contrast and color level accordingly. Watched the test material and was satisfied. I was pretty happy with the results. With the positive movie results I decide to play a game I hop onto PlayStation Home and noticed how dark things are. Certainly too dark, but to verify I decide to play Fallout 3 and it's dark, far too dark. So dark that the town megaton loses the doctors building at ...

  • I think its good...

I bought this thinking that it would revolutionize the way I watch my 1080p TV and blu-ray movies... I guess it did? I don't think the incremental benefit was that great since I'm just an average TV/Movie watcher. However, it was only ~$15-20, so I won't complain too much. A lot of the setup scenes are simple, but you spend a lot of time switching back and forth between your TV's picture settings just to make sure you match the colors, lines, and images. Overall, being an "average" tv user, I don't think that I got good use out of the product. However, that doesn't mean it isn't a good TV calibrator.

  • Do it Yourselfer? Then You Need this.

DVE is by far the most comprehensive, in depth calibration tool available on the market today. Unfortunately, without extensive knowledge of the calibration tests themselves, or proper pc equipment hooked up to your display, you may find the disk somewhat limiting. Pros: Excellent Begininers Guide for people that are new to Home Theatre Calibration located right on the disk. This disk has every possible test you could possibly want on it, with the ability to calibrate color, grey scale, convergence, 3:2 pulldown, proper de-interlacing ability of the display, among many many more features. Cons: Far more tests for professional users with additional equipment then for the standard user. The DVE is a solid buy for any home theatre do-it-yourselfer. It provides all the necessary tools to ...
