Great for old Cold Warriors
This movie is even better than I remembered it. Good for old Cold Warriors and the youngsters who may like a peek into how it was back then. While it's fiction, it really speaks to an old sub-chaser like myself. And Widmarks Finlander is a real piece of work. A bully and a tyrant through the whole movie, at the end he looks like a deer in the headlights. Priceless. And the interview gives a glimpse into his obsession, ego and narcissism. He gets nuttier every time I watch it. Bottom line...a nice little Naval adventure with a not-so-happy ending. Check it out.This movie is even better than I remembered it. A great overlooked movie
If you ever watched Dr Strangelove or Failsafe and liked them, watch this. A very serious movie dealing with the Cold War, but still powerful and relevant today. A movie buff will enjoy it for the actors : Richard Widmark, Sidney Poitier, Martin Balsam, Donald Sutherland, James MacArthur ('Dano' from Hawaii FiveO) And Wally Cox has a serious acting role ! The movie is black and white, but if anything it adds to the flavor of the plot. The plot is quite believable, and similar to Moby Dick. An American destroyer captain is obsessed with a Russian Submarine found inside Greenland's waters. Poitier plays a veteran reporter who in turn is obsessed by the story. Sidney Poitier and Richard Widmark, quite a combination!!! I have not viewed this movie in a long time, but I never forgot the effect it had on me!!! Having the last word can ruin your day!!!

"The Bedford Incident". An interesting Cold War thriler set on a US Destroyer dueling with a Soviet submersible.
A really excellent Cold War thriller with an unexpected twist at the end. Poitier and Widmark are in fine form, and the supporting characters/subplots are engaging. If you like this sort of story, this is a good one. Not quite Fail-Safe, but really good.
