    Pure escapist lunacy

Somehow my disk of this movie was misplaced (I'm blaming the kids who take movies over to other kids' houses to play) so I only had the case and not the disk itself. I missed watching this movie, so seeing a disk-only offer was a no-brainer for me. The movie itself is a romp. While it is easy to pass this off as just another zombie movie, it is a quantum above (and probably inspired) similar films of ordinary folks against the undead. It is funny, tongue-in-cheek, while still addressing issues of relationships - with a girlfriend, best friend, mother, step-father, and favorite bar. I am frightened by "real" horror films and don't watch them, but this doesn't fall into that category. The violence is so over-the-top and cartoonish as to be laugh-inducing rather than distressful. The ...

  • I hate zombie movies generally, but this one is terrific

Imagine the TV series "Friends" in London being attacked by a rampaging mob of "The Undead" but few of our heroes seem to be seriously harmed. That's not quite true. Imagine a bunch of youngish slackers trying to figure out life, relationships and careers. Toss in the Zombie Apocalypse and a well written, witty British script, and you have "Shaun of the Dead." It's one of my favorite recent comedies, and be watched multiple times, just as the slackers in the movie would, too.

Edgar Wright's horror-comedy film, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, follows the title character (Simon Pegg) through his mundane life in London. Joined by his immature and ever-present roommate, Ed (Nick Frost), Shaun excels at nothing except drinking pints of ale and watching television, which causes friction with his girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield). Before Shaun can save his relationship, however, he's got to fend off a horde of zombies that are slowly taking over the city. Armed with a cricket bat and a vague sense of direction, Shaun must rescue his friends and loved ones, and bring them to the only safe place he can think of--the pub. Cowritten by Wright and Pegg, SHAUN OF THE DEAD succeeds remarkably well at combining droll British humor with good, old-fashioned zombie cinema. While the ...

  • The funniest spoof EVER!!!!!!

This is a GREAT movie...it makes me laugh every time and I'll never be able to listen to the Queen track "Don't Stop me Now" with a straight face ever again! Lets be honest....horror movies, particularly anything that involves the presence of Zombies are usually more ridiculous than they are scary; so taking form this premise....Shaun of the Dead is a farcical play on recent horror offerings, particularly the 2004 release of a similar name " Dawn of the Dead" and 28 days later! The setting is very British....our lead character Shaun is not a happy man, to say he was a little dissatisfied with his life would be a mammoth understatement...he works in an electrical shop, has just been dumped by his girlfriend and life is not really going anywhere...though he ...
