About this product

Product Information

All Neal Page (Steve Martin) wants to do is make it home from a business trip in New York City and spend Thanksgiving with his family in Chicago. Instead, he finds himself rerouted from New York's La Guardia Airport to Wichita, Kansas. With no other options, Neal decides to share a room in a fleabag hotel with Del Griffith (John Candy), a shower-curtain-ring salesman and fellow stranded traveler. Although Neal finds Del to be a buffoon, he just can't seem to get away from him. To make matters worse, all their efforts to get back to Chicago fail as trains break down and rental cars catch on fire. Along the way they encounter crazy cabbies, redneck truck drivers, and oversexed bus passengers. John Hughes's (SIXTEEN CANDLES, THE BREAKFAST CLUB) first film to feature adults after his success with teen films features fine performances from Martin and Candy. Kevin Bacon, who appeared in Hughes's next film, SHE'S HAVING A BABY, makes a small but humorous appearance, as does Edie McClurg, known for her role as the high school secretary in FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF.

    Fabulous Comedy.

This movie is a riot. For those who travel a lot, it is even funnier. But one does not need to be a traveler to love this movie. It is about opposite types of people and their adventures trying to get home for the holidays. It is compassionate and really hilarious. Watch it if you really want to laugh.

  • John Hugh's best ever in my mind.

Hugh's best comedy but I bought it on a DVD and their were alot of 'deleted scene's in it. Such as the 'Deleted Scene's one the airplane were 'the older guy next to the window-Martin in the center seat-Candy on the end seat. The deleted scene's on there include 1. were Martin order's lunch with lasagna-browie-etc. and Candy's say's that he alway's order's a 'Special lunch' because the 'cook' cut his finger off and it was mixed it was mixed in the lunch and was served somewhere in Singapore. When Martin asked him what he thought the lasana was, Candy say's exactly what it is but with all the delay's the heat and then heat over until it look's like that. When the girl in the front seat throw's her hair back on Martin's lunch on his brownie, e give's that up to Candy also, and asks the older ...

  • Classic Comedy and one of the best performances by the late John Candy!

John Candy and Steve Martin at the height of their careers, equals a classic comedy that I watch once a year. The movie has taught me a great lesson: If I go traveling with a male buddy of mine, we get SEPARATE beds!!

  • Planes, Trains and Autos

I purchased the VHS for my son who loves John Candy. He, also, likes VHS and just loved this movie. He has seen it a couple of times and I watched it one time with him. Movie is funny and certainly worth getting.
