Very well researched and compelling
I am still reading it, but from what I have seen so far, the book is very well researched and compelling in its arguments. One point I do not agree with is slavery. Col. Seabrook advances the argument that slaves were better off than the laborers in British and Union factories at that time. Recall that there was no eight-hour day, nor safeguards as we know them now. So perhaps the point is made that slaves were more valuable to the owner than the factory workers, who could easily be replaced. Granted. But that does not justify slavery. Yet the point Seabrook makes is that factory conditions were worse than slavery. It really gives food for thought. We have been taught that the War Between the States officially began on 12 April 1861, with the firing on Fort Sumter. Here, as in the example ... Here, as in the example with Japan in December 1941, it seems plausible that the Confederacy was provoked into declaring war. Lincoln refused to meet with Confederate emissaries who sought peaceful secession. And in 1941, Franklin Delano Roosevelt did everything to provoke Japan into declaring war. Because the Confederacy lost the War Between the States it is the victor who writes history. This is why there have been mountains of lies, half-truths and distortions written about CSA and the brave people who fought and died for it. The more I read, the more I become convinced that Lincoln has been elevated to the equivalent of a saint that could do no wrong. His picture is everywhere, including coins and paper money. But this is wrong. Evidence exists that shows Lincoln approved of war crimes against innocent civilians of the South. His generals looted, raped, and destroyed Southern cities, towns and villages. While Jefferson Davis was a man of firm principles, Lincoln was a politician, willing to bend with the political winds. This book is an excellent read and should be read by everyone who wants to get the facts straight.
