It's actually pretty good hardware.
When I got it the phone was incoherent, weird in everything it did, not friendly or useful. I suspect that's why Amazon couldn't sell them to anyone who didn't want a phone to facilitate their Amazon fandoidism. But I didn't want it to buy a bunch of random stuff on Amazon, I bought it root and flashed it straight Android (cyanogenmod) and it turns out it's a really nice phone. It's got GREAT battery life, has lost the funky 3-d cameras, is a nice size, and does everything well. Maybe a tad heavy, but I like it a lot, much better than the Galaxy S4 it replaced, and that's not only because it was a bargain. I didnt get this to use as a phone. By it only being available to one phone service is a huge factor in my saying not a good phone.. with that said I use it as a pocket tablet and it is outstanding for that use.. anyone that has experience with kindle or fire products will have that same experience with one of these pocket tablets and with differnt cloud services you have unlimited access to data and information, along with the ability to add google services its a great little device...I didnt get this to use as a phone. I do not have a mobile phone; but, this one had all the features I dreamed of having, especially at the price I paid. It isn't Android. Is has Amazon operating system and I heard there would be only one update. If you are fond of Amazons Prime product; this is a great little product. Very small screen for viewing unless you can get the prime account to display elsewhere (TV, Tablet, etc.). Huge drawback: No future. Huge Pro: I read it can be modified to use Google Android (but lose Prime). I can't understand some of the negative reviews I have seen for this phone. While not all Google Apps work on it, many of them do. Enough to keep me both entertained and productive. I am able to access, view and edit my Word and Excel documents. The phone feels solid, higher quality than other phones that cost more money. The navigation takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy to use. Excellent camera, both front and rear. Speaker and ring volume are very loud. The only drawback is the lack of a memory card slot, but the 32gb of onboard memory and the unlimited Cloud storage make up for it quite a bit. This phone is amazing. Every day I find a new update it does that the other phones do not do. Like "Firefly" Wow Wow WOW!!! if I am listening to a song...and I do not know the name of it...I turn this on...and voila it figures out name and everything !! and if I am watching a movie or tv show, and I want the name of it I turn on "Firefly" and it finds the name also ...just the feature alone is worth phone... as I have always been frustrated at hearing a song, watching a movie and never knowing the name of it...so can either listen/watch again...or to recommend to family and friends...so we can talk about it. I also like the glide feature...tilt the phone and it moves the screen to the next screen... so I do not constantly have to touch the screen, with finger or pen which is really ... They were like ... oh were getting one of these ! and listening to music via flac file type music ...amazing... as is mp3 music ... sounds very good the only thing I dont like about this phone is that ...it doesn't have an external micro sd card slot... it is hooked up to cloud which is very cool...though when I am off line...I cant use it..... and the battery life doesn't last very long... mmm.... 2-3 hours...and then have to charge again...or buy an external solar battery pack and keep it plugged in (what I did) ... though overall ...I hope they are working on Amazon Fire phone #2 ... as I will buy that one also...and keep my old fire phone as back up... I have like 20 gadgets ... I like this phone the best...its just a powerhouse ... also if get one watch youtube tutorial videos...there are so many things to learn about... that are new ie proprietary ..I like how they were thinking outside the box...instead of doing the same old same old with smartphones No wonder Jeff Bozo's one of richest people in world... brilliant ideas like these are what people looking for....
