    Ivan Doig is one of my favorite authors. This book is a wonderful example of his incredible ability to tell a story with beautiful language, interesting history and wit.

    A charming read.

    This is a well written novel about growing up in northern Montana in the late 1930's; told by an adolescent boy. Not only is this a coming-of-age story but it's also a love story for the people and the land of Montana. Ivan Doig is wonderful with the language of the commom man. His characters are written with great detail, love and much wit.
