About this product

Product Information

David Hall

The first year of issue for the widely collected Mercury dime series. Many were saved as it was the first year of issue, so this date is available in all grades. Uncirculated examples are not rare, but are of course rarer than the 1934-1945 late dates. Gem MS65 examples are more available than any other pre-1934 Mercury dime.

Most mint state examples have fully struck reverse crossbands, and most are indeed sharply struck throughout. Luster is typically satiny, as opposed to the more frosty, milky-like luster of the later isuues.

    A piece of history

The 1916 P Mercury Dime is such a beautiful coin. It was something I have wanted for a long time. This coin did not disappoint. It looks like it was just minted today. Everything about it said it was brand new, but it is really over a hundred years old. I am proud to have it. It is truly a piece of history.

  • Old coin in great condition!

This was for my son for Christmas; he collects coins and he wanted a mercury dime. We bought him the year they were first made. For 100 hundred year old coin I was impressed at its condition.

  • Just as pictured

Very happy with my purchase. It along with a buffalo nickel have been placed in my chatelaine purse. The date of these coins match the era of the purse. Thanks, Julie

  • Detailed Mercury Dime

The 1916-P Mercury Dime arrived very well packaged and upon opening, I was ecstatic at the condition of my new Dime. Overall, both sides still display some luster with all the letters and numbers vivid to the eye. Additionally, the Obverse, shows the fine details of Liberty's head and "winged" cap while, the Reverse showcases every minute detail which makeups the Fasces and the full-foliaged olive branch. If you are a coin aficionado, this Mercury will appeal to your sight.
