    Sweet ole Bernie

Bernie...the funeral director (whom everybody loved) and this TRUE STORY about what really happened in this small Texas town. A cover on a book can be deceiving and so it is with this story of ...that cranky old woman's body in a deep-freezer - well. for later! Entertaining and provocative. Worth every dime. Superb acting by Jack Black - yours & the town's friendly funeral director.

  • Pretty good!

I heard about this movie on the show 48 hours. It is really well done. It's a little documentary -ish but I liked that about it. Based on a interesting true story of a kind man and a friend. I would recommend watching it.

  • Bernie

Before Matt McConaughey became a member of Hollywood's "A list" entertainers, he had appeared in a couple of films that could be found only at the grocery store selling for less than ten bucks. The reason I bought the film was the cost (less than ten bucks at the grocery store) and the leading actor Jack Black. That's right folks, Jack Black. Black is amusing in the various roles he has brought to the big screen-the one in my game room. This Jack Black at his best. Who else could portray a sensitive caring mortuary cosmetician and funereal home director. Everyone in his small town knows and loves the guy. Bernie's just a damn nice person who reaches out to any and all in in need of a smile. Unwittingly, he becomes involved with an older women. Can the almost saintlike Bernie melt the ...

  • Sometimes the truth is more amazing than a made up story!

I just happen to catch this movie on TV late one night and had to buy a copy. The fact that this is a true story makes it even more intriguing. Jack Black is wonderful as assistant funeral director Bernie. He will make you laugh and you start to feel sorry for him and hope he gets away with murder, Shirley MacLaine is great as an overbearing and demanding elderly lady who Bernie befriends. Matthew McConaughey is perfectly cast as the sheriff determined to put Bernie in prison. The interviews from all the towns people really add a wonderful touch to the story. This movie will make you cry and make you laugh and also make you think........is there ever a time when murder is okay?

  • The whole mortuary backdrop was a gas. A bit weird

You have to see this if you like any of the three stellar actors involved in this film. Black, MacLaine or McConaughey. All great performances. It's a weird bio pic with some, if not a lot of ironic dark humor. While the story is interesting, it felt a little more like a documentary of what happened in real life. The whole mortuary backdrop was a gas. I liked it once, but it's the sort of movie, at least for me, once is enough. See it! Cheers, Max Rainet A movie lover for life.
