About this product

Product Information

You heft the double barrel shotgun to chest level and point it at the zombie standing before you. "Bang" you say, and the gun goes "Bang" sending two sprays of molten hot lead screaming into the decaying flesh. The zombie wavers for a moment before falling over in a sickening stench. With a groan, it pulls itself up to it's feet, and you back up a few steps. Pulling your rocket launcher from the holster on your back, you fire a rocket at the creature. As it makes contact, putrid flesh sprays everywhere. This is one zombie who'll never walk again.

Quake, originally created by id software (the creators of Doom and Doom 2), introduces a whole new twist to first-person shooters. With the ability to jump and look both up and down, Quake brought a more realistic sense of actually *being* in the game to the PC. Now it has been ported to the Saturn by Lobotomy Software with nearly everything intact. Players will find a variety of weapons, creatures, and features such as anti-gravity, wind tunnels, and monsters who attack each other.

    Quake...Saturn Powered

And they said good 3D couldn't be done on the Saturn! Well take a look at this version. Very well executed version of the game. It's not a direct port of ID softwares engine but a recreated version using the excellent Powerslave engine. It's near identical. The only real downside to this game is of course the controller. It uses the standard 6 button / 8 direction controller pad. Now if you can get a net link/keyboard you would have a perfect setup. Otherwise there is a bit of a learning curve.

  • The best home console version of this PC classic on the system that supposedly "couldn't handle it"

Although this is probably a 4.5 star port, I am giving it the nod to 5 stars because this is the best home console port of Quake available. Don't let anyone try to tell you the blurry, NIN soundtrack lacking N64 version is better, because true Quake fans will know otherwise. Firstly, this was the Saturn game that wasn't supposed to happen. No one thought the Saturn hardware was capable of handling this game, and developers (including Id Software) were not interested in trying to port it. Enter Lobotomy Software Inc. This was the developer known for making a great 3D game on the Saturn entitled PowerSlave. They were offered the job, and happily accepted the great challenge of porting what was the most advanced fully 3D game ever developed at the time to the Sega Saturn. Lobotomy Software ...

  • Not the best Quake sorry :>

As with most FPS on Saturn it runs on the goofy exhumed engine which did not age well at all. Considering quake had its own engine this is a fairly unforgivable departure but still ok. More like Doom64 which was neither Doom nor truly 64 bit lol. Ultimately this runs decent has over whelming lighting effects the rest of graphics are well below DOS version. If you have the 3d controller try that it does not control well on standard controller.

  • Get them before they get you!

quake is the 1st 1st person shooter I ever got into.. The Good IT long, challenging, good graphics, has great weapons, affordable, one of the better games for the Saturn, and great music!! BAD Funky control. takes a bit to get use to. A bit hard latter on. maybe too hard!!! 1 Player only!! What no split screen or even better Sega Netlink?! If only this was on the netlink!! All In All I love this game it has given me a lot of fun. Great to add to your collection
