Like the 2003 animated short films of the same name, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS reveals what happened during the conflicts of the title, which are set between EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES and EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. Unlike the former series, this CLONE WARS feature film uses computer animation (rather than more traditional 2-D animation) to tell its tales, which follow Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced by James Arnold Taylor), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), and precocious new Jedi recruit Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) as they face off against the sinister Separatist forces led by Count Dooku (the legendary Christopher Lee, who reprises his role from the live-action movies). The film also features appearances by such beloved characters as Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson, also of EPISODES II and III), C3PO (Anthony Daniels), and Yoda (Tom Kane). Directed by Dave Filoni (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER), THE CLONE WARS shares the same era and characters as the 2003 series, but is stylistically quite different, with a blocky look influenced in part by the marionettes of the 1960s U.K. show THUNDERBIRDS. While the voices of actors such as Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christiansen, and Frank Oz are missed, their successors handle their mantles well, confidently leading the heroes in fierce battles and tense chases. Though diehards of the original STAR WARS trilogy may shrug their shoulders at the CGI wizardy, young fans will find much to enjoy in this action-packed movie, which promises to be continued in a regular Cartoon Network TV series.

Serves Its Purpose
I'm not a fan of animated versions of comic books. This strikes me as one. Nonetheless, I wanted to see the bridge between Star Wars episodes II and III. This serves the purpose. I suppose I will need to see the Clone War series to complete that bridge. I just feel that if it was important enough to exhibit, it should have been live, or at least, CGI.

A Star Wars for young kids
The film opens without the traditional scrolling prologue and is replaced by a transatlantic voice that would have been at home in a 1980's Saturday morning cartoon. From here we are thrown into episode 2.5 of the Star War saga. Without giving too much away about the plot: the acting and characters are wooden and two dimensional, even for a kids film (or for that matter a recent Star Wars film). The dynamic between Anakin Skywalker and his new sidekick, will grate on the nerves of anyone over the age of 8 years old. The stiff animation makes everyone come across as a cross between an action figure and a Thunderbird. Another problem is for a theatrically released film, it's "shot" (if you can call it that) in an almost camera-nailed-to-the-ground fashion. Compared to recent Pixar efforts, ... As a spin off from the Star Wars franchise it's OK at best, as a kids film there's much better, as a pilot episode to the upcoming cartoon series it's watchable and if compared to a direct to DVD Disney sequel, it's decent.

Excellent intro into the animated 6-season series!
This animated movie is essential viewing for any SW fan. Plus it features the introduction of Ahsoka Tano and Anakin's hilarious skepticism of having her as his Padawan. Seriously, peeps, Ahsoka is the best fictional character since Kitara ("Last Airbender" series).

Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated
For those Star Wars fans young and old you will enjoy this part of the Star Wars saga. Not the everyday cartoon that the art is mediocre this version of technology is amazing. It has the quality of a nonattimated film with plenty of action with a light saber. I highly recommend to everyone that ever loved Star Wars to buy and watch this film.
