Good price but info not very good for novice.
The best part of this book was the price. It is a hard book to find. I may be in the minority but this was the first java book I have ever started reading. I would say that the author had good intentions but failed to deliver the info in a simple and easy to understand way. It was like reading a book written by a doctor or scientist. It failed to keep it simple. It did provide a few examples but spent so much time on what you should not do and those types of pointers rather than teaching in a simple,easy manner what you should do. I was very disappointed in this book. Unless you have a good understanding of java then I would stay away from this book. I would also say that while reading it that I fell asleep on several occasions. I found it to be a bore.It is hard to find a good java book ... The best part of this book was the price. The book is pretty straight forward, i live the fact that i cover encapsulation, inheritance early in the chapter. I dislike the fact that something the assignment on what to do are vague. I also love the fact that it explain every line in detail. I decided to buy it because it was a newer version and wanted to understand the new topics in the java 1.6 mustang. The best book for Java I have seen!
This text is by far the most inclusive and complete text on Java I have ever seen. I was able to use it to help me solve problems that the "assigned" textbook for my programming class could not help me with. Breaks down everything in detail and provides many, many examples. The text helped me out when I thought all hope was lost. I am glad I came across it.

Java Book
The best feature of this book are the complete code examples that can compile and run. It also has "Good Programing Practice" suggestions, "Common Program Error" tips and "Error Prevention Tips".
