  • A Rollicking Good Time!

Another Hollywood Technicolor extravaganza in the same vein as "The Gang's All Here" and "That Night in Rio". Sadly, studios will never make pictures like this again. Pure, clean entertainment with enough fun plot twists to hold the audience throughout. Grable is romantically vibrant, John Payne and Cesar Romero are at their performing peak and Carmen Miranda, Charlotte Greenwood and Edward Everett Horton keep the humor flowing. Great dance routines set to the music of Harry James round out the appeal this film preserves for the generations born since its release in 1942! Just buy it, settle back and let this charming film transport you to a kinder, gentler time. It's great!

  • The BEST of the war-time Fox musicals

SPRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES is one of many musicals 20th Century Fox made in during World War II. In my opinion it's by far the best of the lot, and Fox made some good musicals during the war. It has attractive leads, John Payne and Betty Grable, an unbelievably talented supporting cast in Edward Everett Horton, Charlotte Greenwood, Carmen Miranda, and Caesar Romero as well as Dick Elliott and a young (if already full-figured) Jackie Gleason, and Harry James and his band. The story is about a song and dance team (Grable and Payne) who were successful on Broadway for three years, who break-up on the eve of getting engaged because she suspects him of philandering. She re-unites with an old dancing partner (Romero, who's a damn good hoofer) and begins touring a hotel/resort circuit which ...

  • Wait, there's a plot?

Mindless entertainment in the best sense of the term, this was likely just what audiences needed in 1942 when World War 2 was raging and the news was pretty bad. In fact it was a smash hit for 20th Century Fox. Terrific music buoys a silly story; Betty Grable is totally appealing; the outrageous Carmen Miranda steals every scene she's in; and the vivid Technicolor will just about melt your retinas. Now that I think about it, I could use some clean, decent, amusing, tuneful entertainment like this today!
