The best classic flash!
The SB-28 is, in my opinion, the best of the older speedlights out there. It's very affordable, often times found in flawless condition and is a powerful little sucker! You cannot do TTL metering with this on modern cameras, but WHO CARES?! TTL is, to be frank, for amateurs who don't know any better. This flash unit is SUPER simple to use, I even prefer using these older flash units over the modern ones that are packed with a TON of useless features. This flash unit, when paired with a power pack, can be fired like a machine gun. If you're into taking X amount of pictures per second, you can with this speedlight. When paired with a wireless trigger unit, you can produce incredible results! In the end: This speedlight is a GREAT link into professional photography. When used correctly ... Bought the SB28 to be used as a slave unit on my DSLR. It is paired with a radio remote and for this function, it works well. For on camera use (DSLR) the Manual and Auto modes works but I'd rather use the newer speedlights from SB-800 onwards as they are fully compatible. I've no complaints about the Sb-28 as it is very reliable, compact and powerful. Pros Well made product, have PC jack, Cheap Cons Costly repair if it ever breaks down!Bought the SB28 to be used as a slave unit on my DSLR. Great value gets the job done
This little guy is a great investment. Some of the later more expensive models have issues. Especiall the SB 900. I like simple. I tried the sb800 hated it, too much programming and a learning curve. The sb28 fits the bill perfectly.

The best flash for off camera portable lighting
Nikon SB 28 is very useful for off camera Strobist type of lighting. It is portable, very quality built and it has all of the needed features - 1/64 to 1/1 light output increments, head tilts and rotates, manual flash, to name the few.

Excellent Nikon flash unit
I picked up this flash to be used as strobe #2 in an off camera setup. I use Canon equipment, but in the case of off-camera flash, brand doesn't really matter as I will be firing them manually using Cactus V4 radio triggers. This flash is great for such a setup. It has easy access to manual power adjustment, is compact, and throws a very impressive amount of light. Highly recommended if you are getting into "strobist" photography and want a quality used flash unit.I picked up this flash to be used as strobe #2 in an off camera setup.
