About this product

Product Information

In Pokémon Y, Nintendo's massively successful creature breeding and battling franchise returns with a new species of starter Pokémon, new mega evolution, improved connectivity, and for the first time in the series, full 3D graphics. As always, players take on the role of a young battle trainer who goes on quests to catch and train Pokémon, then engage in turn-based battles with other trainers to upgrade and evolve their Pokémon. The new adventure is set in the France-like Kalos region, with the ultimate goal of obtaining the eight Kalos Gym Badges and defeating the Elite Four.

Gamers begin by choosing from three starter Pokémon, but they can rapidly access dozens more through trainer battles, random wilderness encounters, or trades with friends. Pokémon Y and Pokémon X both offer a unique new Legendary Pokémon, while the new mega evolution feature lets high-level Pokémon briefly evolve into the extremely powerful Mega form. Players can help build up their Pokémon's stats through practice battles in the new Super Training mode, and the new Pokémon-amie feature lets them increase their bond with the Pokémon by using the stylus and touch screen to pet, scratch, and play with the creatures.

In addition to the classic turn-based battles, Pokémon Y offers new Horde Battles, which pit one Pokémon against multiples foes, and new Sky Battles, in which only flying Pokémon can participate. Multiplayer content remains a key part of the franchise, with the new Player Search System (PSS) letting gamers connect to the Internet and find friends all around the world. The PSS allows for friendly battles, ranked battles, message sharing, and a variety of different trades, including the new Wonder Trade feature, which instantly executes blind trades between two random players.

    Solid Choice

Pokémon X/Y is a great game for beginning and veteran fans alike. It's easy to get into, though some may complain that the 3D transition takes away a lot of the unique emphasis that the previous generations' styles had. Most used copies for this game for for a great value compared to older gen carts.

  • Top critical review

    Shameful

This game is unable to be played. The update was not installed in 2015 and it was necessary in order for it properly work. I would give it no stars if there was the option. Very disappointing.

  • Y

I'm glad that Y has the inclusion of the National Dex. I wish that I could get my Pokemon from Sun, Moon, Red and Blue into the game. It's crazy that I cannot get Generation Seven Pokemon and Pokemon from other games released or re-released after Y. The graphics are kind of subpar compared to Sun and Moon, but it still has the National Dex. The National Dex, I believe is pretty much a mandatory investment since Pokemon's old slogan was "Gotta Catch 'Em All"!

  • Fun step forward.

This series was an excellent step forward for the series on to the 3DS system. I enjoy the new 3D designs of the Pokémon and though the actual 3D on the game is cool it will drop the frame rate performance of the game while active. That's my only real complaint though. It's a fun and interesting world to explore with one of the most involved storylines of the series.

  • Great game, but not fully 3D

I went into this having played every generation. Let's look at the cool stuff. New type, that means you have to rethink match ups. This means dragon types have 3 weaknesses, Dragon, Ice, and Fairy. 8 way movement. No more just moving in 4 directions. New abilities and mega evolutions. That Charizard or Mewtwo is now a Mega evolution and has another ability. On to the bad. The game is pretty easy and you'll get more out of the game battling with others online. Story itself, no challenge really. The 3D. Only some 'cutscenes' and the battles are in 3D. The world map and running around, that isn't 3D. Still, not a bad game. A good game for a long trip or something to grind it. Pokemon X & Y take the game to a new level.
